Ruth White BACP (Accred) Psychotherapy, Counselling and Clinical Supervision
Hi, I'm Ruth. I hope the information below helps inform your decision about engaging in therapy and gives you a bit more of a sense of me and how I work. Please have a look at my website too, or get in touch if you'd like to know more.
I provide a professional, confidential and sensitive psychotherapy and counselling service. I work with individual clients aged 18+ and have experience of working with a diverse range of clients and presenting difficulties.
I can also offer psychotherapy for trainees to support their development and accruing clinical therapy hours. I am on the SPTI therapist list and approved to work with psychotherapy/counselling trainees.
I'm also a clinical supervisor (level 7) working with trainees and qualified therapists either individually or in small groups. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
What does therapy offer you?
A regular and confidential space where you can talk freely about what matters to you. I am committed to offering a respectful approach, listening to what you bring with an openness to learn about your experiences of yourself within the world.
I don't tell you what to do about your difficulties, but I do work to enable you to discover suitable ways to address them that feel right for you. I believe that a therapeutic relationship that holds you at the centre and meets your unique needs can facilitate you to move forward in beneficial ways.
This might be during a difficult life situation that you are facing or in connection to relationship/s. This could be your relationship with yourself, as well as those with others.
It can be hard to talk about difficult feelings and experiences but doing this within a secure and supportive therapeutic relationship provides opportunities for new possibilities and changes to emerge for you.
My therapeutic approach
I'm an integrative psychotherapist drawing on a range of theories based on relationship and early development of the personality. Every client is a unique individual and I seek to work with you based on your needs. The relationship we build in therapy is the most important factor that contributes to healing and personal growth. It is quite different to other relationships because the focus is on you and your needs. Together we come to understand deeper unconscious processes that may have contributed to your difficulties and that keep them going in the present. New insights and self-awareness can inform your choices going forward, helping you to do something different and more aligned to what you want for yourself.
This process can take time and much of my client work is long-term lasting several months to several years. Although I do work with clients on a short-term basis if this is appropriate for a particular difficulty.
Where do the sessions take place?
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am holding all sessions online via Zoom. This is an easy to use platform that allows us to see and speak with each other.
I have not yet reached a decision about when I will resume in-person working. When I can welcome you to in-person therapy again, this takes place in a self-contained annex at my home which has its own private entrance.
I am based between Nottingham and Loughborough, so very convenient for the city, towns and villages of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. I am also close to J24 of the M1 making my service convenient for clients in Derby and Derbyshire.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
