Ruth White - BACP Accredited Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Supervisor
Hi, my name is Ruth and I provide a confidential, professional and compassionate counselling and psychotherapy service. I also offer clinical supervision for trainee and qualified therapists.
What do I offer you?
A regular and confidential space where you can talk freely about what matters to you. I listen carefully to what you bring with respect, and an openness to learn about your experiences from your perspective. I don't tell you what to do about your difficulties; rather I work alongside you to help you discover suitable ways to address difficulties that support what you want from your life and your relationships. This might be relationships with others or your relationship with yourself.
I know that talking about painful experiences can be very difficult, but I also believe that doing this within a secure, consistent and supportive relationship provides a real opportunity for new possibilities and changes to emerge.
My therapeutic approach
I am an Integrative psychotherapist working with a relational-developmental framework. So what does that mean? - Our beliefs about ourselves, others and the world in general contribute to how we feel and behave, and they are based on our earliest relational experiences. I place particular value on the relationship that myself and a client develop together; it is the way I come to know and understand you as a unique individual. The therapeutic relationship is also the foundation through which I support your healing and healthy growth and contributes to addressing your difficulties and bringing about effective change. The therapy relationship may be quite different to any you have experienced before, as the focus is on you and your needs; this is one of therapy's main strengths. Together we come to understand the deeper processes that have brought about your difficulties, and what keeps them going.
Clients work with me short-term (6-12 weeks), medium term (6-12 months), or on an open-ended contract which can be over several years. I meet with a client each week for a fifty minute session. We can discuss what your requirements might be when we meet for an initial assessment to see how we feel about working together.
Where do the sessions take place?
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am holding all sessions online via Zoom. This is an easy to use platform that allows us to see and speak with each other.
When safe to return to in-person working, this takes place in my purpose-built therapy room; a self-contained annex at my home with its' own private entrance. My practice is located in LE12 - close to Loughborough and Nottingham NG11 (20 mins from NG1).
Training, qualifications & experience
I have undertaken an in-depth training at the highly regarded Sherwood Institute where I gained a BSc (Hons) in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy.
I am also a full BACP Accredited and a Registered Member (057744) giving you the added assurance of a professionally regulated service.
I am currently in the final stages of completing a MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy which I have undertaken to further my knowledge and skills to support my work with clients.
I hold a post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision
Previous qualifications include a BA (Hons) Humanities (including Psychology);
Certificate Counselling Skills & Practice; Foundation Counselling Skills course
I have a wealth of experience providing short, medium and long-term counselling and psychotherapy for clients within my private practice, and within several organisations (including EAP's, the charity sector and an agency working with NHS IAPT referrals). I also supervise the work of trainee and qualified therapists.
Client concerns I regularly work with are:
- feeling sad
- low self-esteem
- abuse - sexual/physical/emotional
- sexual identity
- emotional trauma
- childhood trauma that impacts in adult life
These are just a few of the difficulties that clients bring. You may have something else you'd like to talk about, and I am open to listening to whatever that may be. If my service is not quite right for your needs or what you want from therapy, I will try and signpost you to more suitable therapy services.
Taking the next step...
Our first meeting will be an assessment appointment to see if what I offer is right for you.
I understand it might be difficult to take that first step but as a warm, calm and approachable person my aim is to support you from our very first contact and make the counselling journey a rewarding process for you.
I look forward to hearing from you if you'd like to take the next step. You can contact me on 07925 430018 or...
I'm happy to have a brief telephone discussion if you'd like to know any more or to arrange an initial session. I am often able to offer an appointment within a few days.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
