About me

Hi, I'm Ruth and I provide a professional, confidential and sensitive psychotherapy and counselling service.

I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor (level 7) and supervise the work of trainees and qualified therapists.

What do I offer you?

A regular and confidential space where you can talk freely about what matters to you.  I actively listen to what you bring with respect and openness to learn about your experiences.  I don't tell you what to do about your difficulties, but I do work to enable you to discover suitable ways to address difficulties.  My aim is to offer you appropriate support to help you move forward in beneficial ways that you would like to achieve - to where you feel comfortable in your life and in your relationships.  This might be your relationship with yourself.

It can be hard to talk about difficult feelings and experiences, but I believe that doing this within a secure and supportive therapeutic relationship, provides opportunities for new possibilities and changes to emerge for you.

My therapeutic approach

I'm an Integrative psychotherapist.  So what does that mean?  I see each client as a unique individual, and therefore seek to work with you based on your needs.  I see the therapy relationship as the important therapeutic factor that promotes your healing and personal growth.  The therapy relationship is quite different to other relationships - the focus is on you and your needs.  Together we come to understand the deeper internal processes that have contributed to difficulties.  I support you to make changes you choose to make.

I offer short, medium and long-term psychotherapy - from 6 weeks to several years.

Where do the sessions take place?

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am holding all sessions online via Zoom.  This is an easy to use platform that allows us to see and speak with each other.

When safe to return to in-person working, this takes place in my purpose-built therapy room; a self-contained annex at my home with its' own private entrance.  My practice is based between Nottingham and Loughborough, convenient for Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.  I am also close to J24 of the M1 making it convenient for Derby, Derbyshire.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons) in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy. Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute

I hold full BACP Accreditation/Registered Member (057744)

MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (nearing completion) Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute

Diploma in Clinical Supervision (level 7)

Previous qualifications include a BA (Hons) Humanities (including Psychology);
Certificate Counselling Skills & Practice; Foundation Counselling Skills course

I have a wealth of experience providing short, medium and long-term counselling and psychotherapy for clients within my private practice, and within several organisations (including EAP's, the charity sector and an agency working with NHS IAPT referrals).  I also supervise the work of trainee and qualified therapists.

Client concerns I regularly work with are:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • feeling sad
  • OCD
  • low self-esteem
  • abuse - sexual/physical/emotional
  • bereavement
  • sexual identity
  • stress
  • emotional trauma
  • childhood trauma that impacts in adult life

These are just a few of the difficulties that clients bring. You may have something else you'd like to talk about, and I am open to listening to whatever that may be.  If my service is not quite right for your needs or what you want from therapy, I will try and signpost you to more suitable therapy services.

Taking the next step...

Our first meeting will be an assessment appointment to see if what I offer is right for you.

I understand it might be difficult to take that first step but as a warm, calm and approachable person my aim is to support you from our very first contact and make the counselling journey a rewarding process for you.

I look forward to hearing from you if you'd like to take the next step.  You can contact me on 07925 430018 or...

I'm happy to have a brief telephone discussion if you'd like to know any more or to arrange an initial session. I am often able to offer an appointment within a few days.

I am passionate about the benefits of good counselling and psychotherapy and hope to make you feel comfortable in taking the first step in arranging to come and meet with me.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
