About me

Hello, I'm Ruth and I hope the following provides some useful information about me, my therapeutic approach, and how it may help you.   Please get in touch if you'd like to know more.

I aim to provide a professional psychotherapy and counselling service which is particularly responsive to your needs.  I work with individuals aged 18 plus, and have 10 years' experience in providing psychotherapy for a widely diverse range of clients and problems.  I also offer psychotherapy to trainee therapists which supports their personal and professional development, as well as offering clinical supervision to individuals and groups of trainee and qualified therapists.

What does psychotherapy offer you?

A confidential healing space where together we look more closely at your difficulties.  I offer a therapeutic relationship based on respect, integrity and acceptance, together with an intention to align my understanding of you and your experiences at a uniquely personal level.

I don't have answers to your problems, but I do believe that being supported by a warm, professional and experienced therapist can help you to discover and engage with your own abilities to tackle problems - essentially opening up avenues for healthy change that you may not have been aware of before.

My therapeutic approach

I'm an integrative psychotherapist drawing on a range of theories based on human relationship and the early development of personality.  The relationship between client and therapist is often cited as the most important factor contributing to healing and personal growth.  Through the relationship we build in therapy, we come to understand deeper unconscious processes that may have contributed to your difficulties and that keep them going in the present.  New insights and self-awareness can inform your choices going forward, helping you to do something different and more aligned with what you want for yourself.

I work with clients short term (6-8 weeks), medium term (several months), and long term (several years).   Sessions are 50 minutes' duration and take place each week at the same time.

Where do the sessions take place?

I am now accepting clients for face-to-face work as well as online through Zoom.

I am based between Nottingham city and Loughborough, convenient for the city, towns and villages of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.  I am also a 15 minute drive from J24 of the M1 enabling easy access from Derby and Derbyshire.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience.
