About me
Life can be overwhelming, sad, stressful or even frightening at times. Relationship difficulties, bereavements, change – whether unexpected or planned, are all things that can impact us in ways that don’t make sense or we don’t feel able to “get over”, or that we tell ourselves we “should” be managing better. We can sometimes feel consumed by anxiety that doesn't seem to have a clear origin or that keeps recurring.
As a counselling psychologist, I am trained in multiple therapeutic models, specialising in EMDR therapy, and will work flexibly with what we decide together is the best way to approach whatever you are struggling with. I am primarily a relational practitioner, in the sense that I think with you about what it is that brings you to therapy in its relational context, whether this is current or past relationships, including your relationship with yourself. The research evidence illustrates that this perspective is effective in reducing distress and supporting understanding and change. I am trauma-informed in my practice, which means that I recognise the multiple impacts of trauma on peoples’ lives and can work with you on a tailored approach to the issues you are experiencing.
I have a special interest, and experience in working with mental health in aviation and the airline industry. I have a nuanced understanding of the pressures of, and the issues that can affect people who work in these fields.
I have also undertaken training in working with the mental health aspects of menopause.
It is sometimes difficult to take the first step towards therapy, so we can arrange a brief confidential introductory phone call to think about whether I will be the best person for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have several years of experience working in NHS secondary care as well as in the charitable sector. As a chartered member of the BPS (no. 337272) and HCPC, I abide by their ethical frameworks in my practice.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
