About me

I offer  psychodynamic psychotherapy in-person in Bloomsbury, London and online. This sort of work is about knowing oneself better by exploring inner experience and usually involves considering the impact of formative relationships in childhood and beyond, as well as present life and relationships.

I believe - and have experienced through many years of intensive psychotherapy and training - that the therapist’s ability to be present and think with you whatever you bring, however anxiety inducing, troubling, confusing or painful, can facilitate insight and make sense of things, which can open up possibilities.

In terms of what happens in a session, I encourage clients to say whatever comes into their mind, which sounds simple, but for most of us really isn’t. If that’s difficult, we can perhaps think about why and what gets in the way.

I have over a decade of experience, including several years as a psychotherapist in the NHS. I work with people from a broad range of backgrounds, and recognise the importance of psychosocial factors. I work in a way that is trauma informed and neuroaffirming, rather than viewing conditions, or suspected conditions, through a deficit lens.

Alongside NHS work, I see clients privately for once or twice weekly sessions. We can work in an open-ended way or for an agreed short-term period, depending on your needs. I take a balanced approach between empathetic understanding and thoughtful challenge.

I work with adults throughout the lifespan. I am familiar with thinking about and working with anxiety and issues that can arise at different ages and stages. I am also keenly aware of climate anxiety and its global sociopolitical impact.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and Birkbeck, University of London.

I am also a trained breastfeeding supporter through the UK Breastfeeding Network and have volunteered with the Birth Trauma Association.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
