About me

Trauma-Informed Counsellor and Neurodivergence Specialist

My name is Robyn Ferns, I am a qualified Play Therapist, Integrative Counsellor, Clinical/Creative Supervisor and Clinical Director of a therapy service.

At Sequoia Therapy, I believe everyone deserves to feel understood, respected and accepted for who they are. I offer a welcoming, non‑judgemental and affirming space where people can safely explore their experiences and move towards meaningful change. My approach is evidence‑informed, trauma‑informed and neurodivergent‑affirming.

I recognise that every person’s experiences, relationships and way of understanding the world are unique. Rather than focusing on perceived deficits, I celebrate individual strengths, value lived experience and work alongside each person to understand what matters most to them.

As a compassionate therapist, I am committed to making support accessible and inclusive. I am neurodivergent myself, bringing personal insight alongside extensive therapeutic knowledge and experience. This combination helps me build genuine, trusting relationships where people feel listened to, valued and supported.

I work with children, young people, adults and families experiencing a wide range of emotional, developmental and psychological challenges. These include developmental trauma, attachment difficulties, neurodivergence, sensory processing differences, anxiety, relationship difficulties and significant life changes. I have specialist expertise in Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, OCD, Tics & Tourettes, emotional regulation and developmental trauma, allowing me to tailor support to each individual rather than expecting people to fit a particular model.

I believe the best therapy is collaborative. It begins with curiosity, compassion and a genuine commitment to understanding each person’s unique experiences. While lived experience can offer valuable perspective, it is combined with professional expertise, evidence‑based practice and a dedication to helping people achieve meaningful, lasting change.

Whatever someone’s journey, I am here to offer support that is individual, respectful and centred around their unique needs.

Supervision

Step into a supervision space designed for practitioners who want depth, authenticity and support that honours the way you think and work. I offer a warm, collaborative environment rooted in neurodivergent‑affirming practice, ideal for counsellors, therapists, coaches and wellbeing professionals who value inclusive, reflective and curiosity‑driven supervision.

As a neurodivergent supervisor, I’m passionate about supporting neurodivergent practitioners and those working with neurodivergent clients. I recognise that traditional models don’t fit everyone, and that our lived experience, identity and processing style shape our therapeutic voice. Here, you’re free to show up as your whole self - structured or nonlinear, masked or unmasked - without judgement or pressure to perform.

My supervision style blends relational depth with practical clarity. Drawing from pluralistic, person‑centred and trauma‑informed approaches, I integrate creative tools, psychoeducation and coaching‑influenced reflection to help you gain insight and momentum. I bring a thoughtful lens to power, language, intersectionality and the systems we navigate, supporting you to make sense of your work in a way that feels grounded and empowering.

Whether you’re navigating ethical questions, refining your niche, exploring identity in your practice or managing burnout, I’m here to help you strengthen your confidence, expand your capacity and grow a sustainable, aligned therapeutic career. Supervision with me offers a space to think aloud, explore possibilities, challenge yourself gently and develop a practice that feels both authentic and resilient.

Training, qualifications & experience

With two decades of experience working with children, young people, and adults across diverse environments. This includes early years, schools, children's homes, family contact centres, adoption therapy services, and the management of a neurodivergent-affirming therapy service for both neurodivergent therapists and clients - I bring substantial expertise. Additionally, I offer my personal perspective as an individual with lived experience of neurodivergence.

Throughout my career I have worked with children, young people, families and adults who have experienced a wide range of life affecting difficulties such as domestic violence, alcoholism/drug use, neglect, physical and emotional abuse, child sexual exploitation (CSE), rape/sexual assault victims and perpetrators. I have worked with diverse family dynamics and challenging relationships.

I am qualified in a range of evidence-based and creative therapeutic approaches, including person-centred counselling, CBT, Gestalt therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, SandStory therapy, play therapy and Lego based therapy.

As an integrative practitioner, I do not follow a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, I draw thoughtfully from these approaches to create a personalised way of working that responds to what my clients bring to each session, at their pace, and in a way that feels supportive rather than overwhelming.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
