About me
I offer a safe, supportive and confidential environment for individuals and couples seeking help and guidance. Through a personalised and person-centred approach, I will work with you to help address your challenges and emotions, and to empower you to navigate through difficult times, to a better place.
Formally speaking my approach would be described as existential, integrative and person-centred. In practice, that means that my focus is on my client and their unique life experience, while also being aware of the struggles that are common to us all. I don't have all the answers, but I work in partnership with my clients to find them, using techniques and ideas from anywhere that's useful, including Transactional Analysis, Mindfulness Mediation and Gestalt Therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I gained my counselling diploma in 2003 and have been in practice for most of the time since then. In those years I have trained in the use of Transactional Analysis (TA) in counselling, Family Constellations, Couples Counselling, Addiction and Positive Change, Gender and Workplace Issues, Assertiveness, Conflict Management and the use of Mindfulness Mediation in counselling, to name but a few.
My practice encompasses a broad spectrum in terms of the problems and issues that I am able to help with. That includes depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction and other behavioural problems, dealing with stress and coping with past trauma. I work mainly one-to-one with adults but do some couples work, too.
As well as working as a counsellor and briefly teaching counselling skills at level 3, I have worked in the public and voluntary sectors with vulnerable young people and their families. I have run a number of voluntary sector organisations and I worked directly with people who are homeless, people suffering addiction issues and people coping with past trauma and abuse. Alongside all of that, I have spent many years working in the private sector as a consultant and trainer in psychometrics and workplace psychology.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
