About me
Hello, my name is Rizwana. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
I offer one-to-one counselling working predominantly in a person-centred approach; however, I do draw from other therapeutic models to suit your individual needs.
I believe we all have the power to grow, but sometimes life throws up unexpected curve balls. At this time, you may need some help to navigate these challenges and find a new way and that is where counselling can help.
I focus on offering my clients a chance to feel empowered and physically and emotionally safe. I am friendly, warm and empathetic, but most importantly I offer honesty and a non-judgemental environment. I am committed to want to help you and I believe our relationship is the key to effective therapy.
Coming from an Indian Muslim background and working with minoritised people in the third sector I understand how important it is to offer a space which is sensitive to who you are and your beliefs. Our background and our beliefs shape us and can influence our lives having an impact on who we are today. You are an individual with your own experiences, and I will accept you for who you are.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have extensive training and experience of working with trauma and I work in a trauma sensitive way, offering my clients a safe space. I have worked with survivors of sexual violence for a rape crisis centre and i'm an accredited member of The Foundation for infant loss.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I believe that our mental wellbeing is important and access to therapy should be more inclusive, so I offer concessions to students and those on certain benefits (proof required).
