About me

Hi, I’m Rachael,

Sometimes life feels harder than we expect but reaching out for support can make a real difference.

I offer a warm, supportive, non-judgmental space where you can be yourself and talk openly about your feelings, thoughts and experiences. Together we can explore whatever may be going on for you and help you find a way forward. We work at your pace, building a trusting relationship based on empathy, respect, and understanding.

I support adults, young people, and children (11+) facing difficulties such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Low mood & Depression
  • Relationship & Family difficulties
  • Religion & Faith related issues
  • Loneliness & Isolation
  • Living with Health Conditions or Chronic Illness
  • Stress
  • Life Transitions
  • ADHD, Autism & Neurodiversity
  • School & College related issues
  • Identity Issues
  • Trauma & Past Experiences
  • Low Self Esteem & Confidence

Alongside my private practice with adults and children, I am also a counsellor at a local college. Supporting young people through important stages in their lives is especially meaningful to me. When working with young people & children, I offer a flexible and creative approach to help them express themselves in ways that feel comfortable.

Counselling can help you to:

  • Feel heard, understood, and supported in a safe & confidential space
  • Develop practical ways to cope with stress, anxiety, feeling low or overwhelmed
  • Build a kinder, more compassionate relationship with yourself
  • Feel clearer about who you are and what you need and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck
  • Feel more confident expressing yourself and making choices
  • Discover your own strengths and inner resources

What to expect in your first session:

Starting therapy can feel daunting, so the first session is an opportunity to explore what has brought you to counselling, what you hope to gain and whether we feel like the right fit to work together. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with and we will move at a pace that feels right for you. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. If you’re thinking about reaching out, I’d be really happy to hear from you.

I offer face-to-face counselling in a quiet space in the centre of Kendal, Cumbria and online or telephone sessions across the UK and worldwide.

I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy (also known as Eco-Therapy, Nature Therapy or Outdoor Therapy) in the Kendal area.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
