About me
Hello, and welcome!
I know from experience that seeking support is not always easy…
You may have experienced therapy before, or this may be your first time - wondering if it’s going to help, wondering what it will be like. You may be telling yourself that you’re ‘making a fuss over nothing’ or that you are ‘beyond help’ or you may be somewhere in between. Wherever you are on this spectrum, I will provide a safe non-judgemental space where growth and healing can happen.
I’ll work with you to gently and safely explore your feelings, yourself, and what might perhaps be making your life harder than it needs to be and how we can make things better.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy from the University of Salford and have completed additional training in a number of different areas, including Trauma-Informed Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Bereavement Counselling and Intergenerational Trauma. I am a Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Alongside my private practice, I also work for SAFA (Self Harm Awareness for All) Cumbria.
Before switching to Counselling, I enjoyed working for an overseas development agency, in cancer care, and as a teacher in a boarding school with long experience on the pastoral team. As a Counsellor I’ve worked in a variety of settings including a residential addiction rehabilitation centre and a Sixth Form College. All these roles, as well as being a wife, a mother and a happy walker of dogs in the fells or on the shore have played some part in making me the Counsellor that I am.
I’m interested in social justice issues, spirituality and the environment and how these issues intersect in our world and impact on ordinary people’s lives. I've also noticed that in many of my sessions, the impact of the pandemic is a recurrent theme, whatever else people come to talk about. It has impacted on all our lives more than we perhaps realise...
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Effective therapy depends on the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor, so I offer a free 30-minute initial meeting online during which we can explore how well we ‘fit’ for work together.
I offer 60-minute sessions online or in the outdoors and also have some availability for in-person sessions.
