About me

I am a qualified counsellor with accredited registrant membership of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society MNCPS (acc.) and registered membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I offer one to one therapeutic counselling for adults ‘in the room’, but can consider some online sessions.

My practice training and experience is integrative which means that I combine and apply more than one theory and method of practice (E.g., Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, CBT) according to need.

My style is warm, compassionate and validating and I would aim to support you in thinking through the challenges that you might be facing in your life. This would be with a view to you feeling less troubled, clearer, and more confident and equipped to manage.

Training, qualifications & experience

Advanced Diploma in Counselling, Level 4 (MNCPS Accred)

BACP  Registered Member

My background is in therapeutic social work, assessment and quality assurance.   During my 37 year career, I received training in family therapy, solution focused brief therapy, and time-conscious psychodynamic counselling. I also studied child development and attachment theory in some depth.

In recent years, I have undertaken experiential training in motivational interviewing and systems theories as well as my more recent training for my diploma.  I have attended numerous Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events with various counselling and psychotherapy organisations. I have also experienced both long-term and short-term counselling and psychotherapy as a client and therefore have some awareness of what it’s like to sit in the opposite chair!

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
