About me

Hello, I’m Petra, a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor. I work with people experiencing a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, low mood and self-worth, relationship difficulties, trauma, addiction, and experiences of neurodivergence such as ADHD, Autism etc. I also specialise in supporting parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities, and have lived experience of the stress, trauma and distress that can come from navigating a system not set up for you or your child's needs.

At the heart of my work is building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to share your story and explore what's troubling you in a warm, confidential, non-judgemental space. I believe all of us are doing the best we can, often in less than ideal circumstances, and I'll work alongside you at your own pace, gently uncovering new perspectives and possibilities for meaningful change & healing.

Many of us experience times when life feels hard - whether it's something we've been struggling with for a long time, or a present problem causing us pain or holding us back from living the life we want. I will be interested to hear what's brought you to counselling, what your hopes for change are & work collaboratively with you to bring about the change you're seeking.

Finding the therapist for you can feel daunting and you’re welcome to email me or call & leave a message so we can arrange a free 30 minute phone consultation where I can really hear what’s going on for you currently & you can ask any questions you may have. I’ll be interested to hear why you’re considering therapy & what you hope to achieve from it.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a qualified Integrative Counsellor and a registered member of both BACP and NCPS. My integrative training allows me to draw on a range of approaches, including Relational Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Felt Sense models.

Alongside my private practise, I work for a charity that provides long term therapy for people living with active addictions or in recovery, and those facing complex challenges, often where underlying trauma plays a central role. This experience has given me a deep appreciation of how early experiences, attachment, and coping strategies can influence how we relate to ourselves and others.

I bring a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to my work, supporting clients to explore their experiences safely and at their own pace.

I have lived experience of being neurodivergent and being part of a neurodivergent family and I'm passionate about creating a space where your communication style, sensory needs & way of processing are respected & understood, and it's safe to be and discover your true self.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Note on Top Specialties

Many of us have spent years trying to adapt to fit social expectations, in the case of autistic, neurodivergent & other marginalised people - masking. This can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, or a sense of disconnection from ourselves. I aim to create a space where your communication style, sensory needs & way of processing are respected & understood, and it's safe to be and discover your true self.
