About me

Hello! I'm Peter, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor.

People consider therapy for all sorts of reasons. Maybe you know exactly what you'd like to work through; perhaps life's thrown something unexpected your way and you don't fancy tackling it alone. On the other hand, maybe it's hard to put your finger on exactly what's up, but you know something doesn't feel right and you'd like to explore what's going on.

Whatever's led you to my profile, I'd like to offer an open-minded and confidential space where you can reflect on what’s happening and what's happened, find clarity in dark times, and figure out what things might look like moving forward.

Whether you’re hoping to make sense of your life, keen to make changes, or simply looking for a place to be heard and understood, I’ll meet you with warmth, compassion and curiosity.

How I work

I was trained in a range of therapeutic styles like person-centred, psychodynamic and existential therapies, along with CBT and acceptance and commitment therapy, and I used elements of each of these when I'm working with clients.

I've found that an effective way of being able to integrate all those styles in a coherent way is through attachment-based psychotherapy — a way of being able to look at how we relate to others, how we relate to situations, and how we relate to ourselves.

As well as giving me the ability to work with different models of counselling and psychotherapy, my training also means I can, where appropriate, integrate coaching into our work. Not everyone wants or needs this, but it does mean that in addition to being able to work with you on exploring your past and your present, I can also help you look at what comes next.

Getting started

If you think you might like to work with me, you can...

Once we've introduced ourselves properly, if we feel like a good match we can book in a first session and take it from there.

Location

If you'd like to see me online, our sessions will generally take place via Zoom, unless you have a preference for another platform.

For face-to-face sessions we'll see each other in Shoreditch — I'm just round the corner from the Overground station, and easily accessible from Hackney, London Bridge and Liverpool Street.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Integrating Attachment-Based Psychotherapy into Clinical Practice (Optima/CPCAB)
  • PGDip Integrative Counselling and Coaching (University of East London)
  • Certificate in Couple and Relationship Therapy (The Grove)
  • Foundation Certificate in Counselling Skills (WPF Therapy)
  • Certificate in Clinical Assessment Skills (WPF Therapy)
  • Diploma in Transformational Coaching (Animas)

I'm a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My core training was accredited by the BACP, and prior to graduating I completed hundreds of hours of client work on clinical placement at a low-cost service in east London, along with plenty of my own personal therapy along the way.

During and beyond that I’ve engaged in professional development courses and workshops which include training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Cardiff University), Motivational Interviewing (Tavistock and Portman) and Advanced Creativity Coaching (CCA), as well as CPD covering issues such as grief, online and telephone counselling skills, perfectionism, trans awareness, domestic abuse and coercive control, and music performance anxiety.

I’ve also received mentoring training through the charity Help Musicians, and have taken part in their Co-Pilot mentoring scheme for the last three years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

With a background in the media and music industry, I’m attuned to many of the issues that can come up in those areas — this often involves working with challenges like self-esteem, inner critic, status, identity, fame, performance anxiety, relationships with band members and fans, burnout, social media and more. I have a special interest in working with musicians and people in the creative industries and am a member of the Music Industry Therapist Collective.
