About me
I’m Peter, a Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC. This life can be hard and many of us reach points where something has to give. We might find ourselves stuck in the past, struggling with the present or hopeless about our future. I have over ten years of experience completing psychological therapy with adults (18 and above) from a range of backgrounds with all kinds of difficulties including Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Emotional Dysregulation, Psychosis, PTSD, Eating Disorder, Pain, Low Self-Esteem, Addictions, Interpersonal Difficulties, Burn-Out and Bereavement. I am passionate about helping people to make sense of whatever is painful in their lives and to discover ways of living fuller lives.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am trained in a range of psychological approaches and regularly draw from CBT, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I view compassion and authenticity as the foundations of my therapeutic stance and I have the training and experience to work flexibly to the needs of my clients. I have special interests in Compassion Focused Therapy, working with Chronic Shame and Buddhist Psychology. I hold a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) and a research PhD.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Our problems often don’t fit in one particular box. I strongly believe in working to understand and help the individual person in front of me. I view it as essential for therapists to be sensitive and curious about how personal factors such as gender, race, identity, class and neurodiversity shape a person’s world.
