About me
Hi, I’m Paul. I’m an integrative counsellor working with individuals and couples who feel stuck in anxiety or repeating patterns — especially where this shows up in relationships.
You might have some understanding of what’s happening but still find yourself reacting in the same ways. The same thoughts, the same feelings, the same patterns — whether that’s in your relationships or in your own mind.
You might be experiencing:
- anxiety, overthinking, or feeling stuck in your thoughts
- intrusive thoughts or mental loops that are hard to step out of
- repeating patterns in relationships
- conflict, distance, or disconnection with a partner
- difficulty expressing what you feel or need
- a sense of being stuck, despite insight
How I work
My approach is integrative and mindfulness-informed.
I’m not a blank screen. I’m engaged, responsive, and willing to be direct when it’s helpful — while still creating a space where you can explore things at your own pace.
Rather than just talking about what’s happening, we also pay attention to how things are showing up in the moment — helping you develop a clearer awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and reactions.
Much of the work focuses on understanding the patterns that can keep you stuck and finding different ways of responding.
Areas I work with
I work with:
- anxiety and overthinking
- intrusive thoughts and OCD (including 'Pure O')
- relationship difficulties and couples work
- patterns shaped by past experiences or trauma
Therapy for individuals and couples
I offer counselling for individuals and couples in Rayleigh, Essex, and online.
Whether you’re coming on your own or as part of a relationship, the focus is on helping you understand what’s happening and begin to create meaningful change.
Getting started
If you’re considering counselling, you’re welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial conversation.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have experience working with clients across a range of settings, including a counselling service in Colchester, a GP surgery in North Essex, and a national charity where I facilitated bereavement support groups.
Alongside my private practice, these experiences inform a flexible, thoughtful approach, allowing me to tailor the work to each individual. Much of my work now focuses on anxiety, intrusive thoughts (including OCD), and the patterns that can leave people feeling stuck — both in themselves and in their relationships.
I often work with people who have a good level of insight into what’s happening, but still find it difficult to create lasting change. Therapy offers a space to slow things down, understand these patterns more clearly, and begin to respond differently.
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Person-Centred Integrative Counselling, a Master’s Degree (with Merit) in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Criminology.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
