About me

Hi, I’m Paul. Before training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I spent 25 years building businesses and working in senior leadership roles. I know the world of ambition, achievement and responsibility from the inside - and I've also experienced the value of having someone outside that world help me think more clearly about the questions that matter.

That experience was part of what led me to psychotherapy. I became increasingly interested in what sits beneath the decisions we make, the patterns we repeat and the expectations we place on ourselves.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what is happening for you. We can explore what you are experiencing in the present, while also considering whether experiences from the past may be influencing how you think, feel or respond today.

I work with adults who are trying to make sense of change, achievement, loss, relationships and what they want from the next stage of their lives. You may be dealing with anxiety, stress or difficult experiences, or simply feel that something isn't quite right even though life may look fine from the outside.

People have more of the answers than they think. My role is to listen carefully, ask a different question and help you find new perspectives.

Training, qualifications & experience

Alongside my private practice, my current clinical work includes counselling for NHS Talking Therapies in Wandsworth through The Awareness Centre, where I work with a wide range of presenting issues and all levels of risk. I am also a Triage Assessor for Mind in Enfield and Barnet, conducting initial calls with referred clients and helping to determine the most appropriate support for people referred to the service.

Qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Westminster, graduating with Distinction, and a Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent’s University London.

I am a Registered Member MBACP and work within the BACP Ethical Framework.

Before training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I spent 25 years building businesses and working in senior leadership roles. That experience continues to inform my work, particularly when supporting people navigating pressure, responsibility, achievement, career decisions and significant change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I offer face-to-face counselling in Clapham and Wimbledon, as well as online. Sessions are usually weekly and can be either short or longer-term, depending on what is most appropriate.

Finding the right therapist is important, so I offer an initial conversation to understand what brings you to counselling, to answer any questions you may have, and to see whether you feel I might be the right person to work with.

I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to talk openly about whatever is happening for you. You don't need a diagnosis or to know exactly what you want to achieve before starting.
