About me
Hi there,
My name is Patty and I am a humanistic and integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, is something happening in life thats getting in the way of family or friendships?
I practice from the integrative modality which means I use different theories to support my work addressing detrimental thoughts or challenging emotions. My preferred approach looks at understanding why we respond to certain situations in the ways that we do in the 'here and now', by appreciating many of our adult responses are formed due to hurtful experiences in our childhood, or the 'there and then'. Through my work in the NHS I have experience if you are looking for shorter or long term support.
Life often carries so many stressors, it is these unhealthy learned responses that often keep us locked in cycles of stress and prevent us from enjoying life and our relationships in it. This can help us understand why we sometimes feel overwhelmed in situations that are emotionally triggering, which is often the case if we experience anxiety, depression, self harming or self injurious behaviours or behaviours we know to be unhealthy but feel powerless to stop.
Every client is different and it is important that any intervention is tailored to your individual needs. As such for some clients a longer form of therapy to understand relational wounds from childhood may be appropriate. Other clients may be looking for a shorter term intervention to solve a specific problem.
Please feel free to email or contact me by telephone. I am happy to offer an initial telephone / online consultation to discuss your goals of therapy. If you feel we are a good mix we can decide how to proceed from there. I work using a non judgemental and compassionate approach as I appreciate how brave it is to share our biggest difficulties. I maintain a strong ethical approach to ensure your wellbeing is at the core of any work we do together.
Maybe you are looking to feel 'normal' or 'happy'? Let's work out what that means for you, because each person's 'normal' or 'happy' can be vastly different! Whatever has led you to seek out counselling, by working together I really believe solutions can be found.
I also work with couples. If you are experiencing emotional challenges or barriers in your relationship and you would like to navigate these feel free to contact me to discuss further.
Please be aware, to maintain a healthy work / life balance I do not respond to messages after 6pm, on weekends of bank holidays. I will respond to any emails as soon as possible on the next working day.
best wishes for your counselling experience,

- MSc 2020 Integrative Psychotherapy

I have worked in community and custodial rehabilitation settings since 2002. During this time I have worked with a range of challenging behaviours, including anxiety and depression, childhood trauma, unhealthy intimate relationships, addictive behaviours, self harm, violence and abuse. I believe the key to addressing many of these difficulties is through building a strong rapport in our relationship. During our time together we can learn to understand the patterns of why you respond in certain ways. Understanding these patterns provide you with a choice to make changes. This allows you the opportunity to overcome the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that are stopping you achieving the best version of you.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
