Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MBACP)

About me

Hello and welcome. I'm Olivia and I am a qualified MBACP-registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. I work in person in both Putney and Richmond, South West London as well as working online.

I am not here to analyse or advise you, but to listen and accompany you with warmth, sensitivity and acceptance in your exploration of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. There is something incredibly powerful in the experience of being heard and listened to by another, and my intention is to offer you this experience.  My hope is that this will support you to process challenging feelings, develop insights and deepen the trust you hold in yourself to live a life that aligns with who you want to be.

What do sessions look like?
After our introductory call, we will agree the time and place to meet for our first session.  The aim for your first session is for you to get an idea on whether you might be able to work with me, to achieve your goals in a therapeutic relationship, and how I can support you to achieve these goals.

In the first few sessions we can explore any questions you might have about the therapy process and we will get to know one another.  I am led by you as the expert of your own experience and will offer you an honest and open space to explore what might be challenging you.  We will discuss the length of time you wish to engage with therapy for; I offer short term (6-12 sessions) or longer term, open-ended therapy, depending on what you want to focus on in therapy.

How do I work?
I offer my clients a confidential and respectful environment to explore and develop self-awareness, healing and self-responsibility, which can help you lead a more fulfilling life that aligns with your belief system. I will work with you to bring awareness and understanding to your unique experience with the world around you.  By bringing light to areas out of your awareness in a collaborative, warm, empathic way, I believe positive change can arise.

Through my warmth, curiosity, and ability to sit in the unknown, I am dedicated to creating a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe that every individual has the capacity for personal growth, acceptance, and autonomy, and I strive to facilitate this process through empathic and compassionate presence.

I work relationally, which means that, at times, I draw on the relationship that we build together in the therapy room.  This is effective in bringing awareness to relational patterns that may be occurring outside of the therapy room.  With this awareness, my hope is that you'll feel equipped to make the changes you feel beneficial in your relationships: either in your relationship to self or to others.

My work is underpinned by three humanistic theoretical frameworks: Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis.  At the core of my humanistic philosophy is the belief that clients are the experts of themselves and with warmth, curiosity and acceptance clients can explore and better understand their full selves. Having a foundation with these frameworks allows me to holistically shape the therapy to the individual needs of each of my clients.

I am committed to recognising and challenging the systemic power imbalances that can affect our lives. I believe that social and cultural norms can often reinforce oppressive structures, leading to marginalisation, discrimination, and inequality.  I prioritise creating a therapeutic environment that is inclusive, diverse, and respectful of all individuals, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences.

What next?
If you are interested in working together, I offer a free 20-minute video call on Google Meet where you can ask any questions you may have and gain an understanding of how we might work together.  For me, the therapeutic relationship forms an integral part of the work so it is important that you feel I am the right therapist for you.  If I am not, I am happy to point you towards some resources where you might continue your search.

I offer both in person and online therapy sessions.  Currently, my in person therapy spaces are held in East Putney and in Richmond, and both areas are accessible by the District tube line and a national rail train station.  Sessions are 50 minutes and are held weekly at the same time.

Training, qualifications & experience

Prior to beginning my private practice, I gained extensive professional experience working in a variety of environments, including nonprofit organisations and Greater London community services.  This experience gave me the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals across a broad spectrum of concerns.

I hold a postgraduate advanced diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Metanoia Institute in London. I hold the Certificate of Proficiency from BACP.  I hold an undergraduate degree in Philosophy (International) from the University of Leeds.

I am a registered member of BACP, I am a trainee member of UKCP and I am a member of the Metanoia Institute.  I abide by all of their ethical codes.  I receive regular clinical supervision to support my practice and to ensure I am working safely and ethically.

I am committed to completing Continuous Professional Development to enhance my skills and knowledge.  I am currently working towards my final MSc qualification as a Humanistic Psychotherapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access info
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My practice in Richmond (TW9) is wheelchair user accessible.
