About me

Supporting people in a non-judgmental, empathic and compassionate way is not just a job but a way of being for me and has been for nearly a decade of this work.

It is really important to acknowledge when we need support, and recognising there is no shame in reaching out when we do. I truly believe we all know what is best for ourselves, but have lost connection to our source of strength and intuition. Over time people become convinced they can't rely on their decisions because the world tells them they aren't good enough, other people state they know what is best for us, that we are wrong and can't rely on ourselves, saying things like, "I told you so..." or giving other unhelpful and judgmental feedback.

I work with various presentations but often specialise in working with adult children of emotionally immature / narcissistic parents and also those wanting to work on gender identity and/or sexuality - however, I work with all kinds of experiences.  Anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem - whatever it is we can work through it.

We are all connected by emotion, not experience - and therefore I can work with you.

Whatever your needs, our work together is about finding those lost pieces that feel missing, helping you let go of the voices from others telling you you're wrong, you're not enough or you need to change, and bringing back a connection to that little voice inside you which is often ignored because the brain shuts it down because people in your life have told you it can't be trusted. But it can.

My approach to client work is creative and unique, integrating various modalities and practices to suit your situation.

If you want to change I can be your guide. I will be honest and I will challenge you - because remember, growth and comfort do not coexist. It may not be easy, but what great achievements ever are.

If you want to change, if you are sick of the destructive patterns, the poor relationships with yourself or others, if you are sick and tired of feeling anxiety or of not being good enough, get in touch to start your change today.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience in a variety of sectors including charity work, bereavement and hospice services, children and young people, in the NHS and education sectors. I worked in emergency medicine for over a decade before moving over to talking therapies.

As well as working as a therapist, I am a lecturer in higher education in counselling and psychotherapy, teaching and supervising counsellors in training.

I have a doctorate in developmental psychology exploring the effects of social media on sexual identity construction and the application to psychotherapy, a master's degree in advanced counselling and psychotherapy, post graduate qualification in clinical supervision, EMDR Europe training as well as a variety of qualifications in other modalities including Narrative Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Solution Focused, Internal Family Systems and Single Session model training. I am also qualified in advanced clinical hypnotherapy.

I work with 'traditional' talking therapies but also bring in some expressive and creative elements to activate the right side of the brain to access creativity, emotions, the inner-child and imagination to find your way through your challenges or to just express yourself in a more unique way.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am a qualified yoga teacher and children's yoga teacher, and can integrate yoga into talking therapy giving you skills and abilities to reconnect to yourself. Yoga is not about standing on your head or holding contortions for long periods of time - yoga means 'union', and it is about coming back to yourself and re-connecting to the parts you might have ignored for a long time or feel fearful of. This can be through breathwork, meditation or movement as well as a range of other creative ways.
