About me
Beginning therapy can be overwhelming, and so I offer a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgemental therapeutic space in which you can explore and address the issues that are troubling you. Perhaps you have been going through a difficult period in your life because of relationships, life transitions, or work? You may be suffering from anxiety, feeling low, or are lacking self-confidence. Maybe you simply feel stuck and are struggling to move forward. I am a HCPC-registered psychologist qualified to doctoral level and trained to use a wide variety of therapeutic techniques, and I will work with you to find the right approach for you. I will help you to identify your aims and work towards them, for example, addressing problematic patterns of behaviour, reducing symptoms or increasing self-awareness. I believe in empowering my clients and equipping them to better face life's challenges. I am passionate about treating everyone as an individual and taking account of their social and cultural context, and I also believe that our mental health is closely connected to our physical health and that this should also be considered in therapy.
What to expect from therapy sessions
I offer an initial free online consultation session of up to 30 minutes to better understand how I can help you and whether we are a good fit. If we proceed, the first session will be an assessment where I spend time understanding the issues you want to explore in therapy, your background, and discussing with you the most helpful approach. Sessions last 50 minutes in a lovely room in central St. Albans.
I work on both a short and long-term basis and will only give therapy for as long as it is genuinely needed.
What is the difference between a Counselling Psychologist and a Counsellor?
A Counselling Psychologist is trained to a doctoral level in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and the theory underpinning them, and so can be flexible in the delivery of therapy. Counsellors are generally trained in only one therapeutic model and rarely have the same level of training.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
