About me
Hi, I’m Nikki Shield, and I'm a fully qualified Psychotherapist/Hypnotherapist and NCPS-accredited Pluralistic Counsellor, based in Southport, UK.
I know first-hand how daunting it can feel to start therapy, especially when you're already feeling anxious, overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted. That’s why I offer a free 15-minute consultation to help you determine if I'm the right therapist for you.
At the heart of my work is creating a warm, non-judgmental, safe space where you can talk openly, at your pace, about whatever is on your mind.
How I work
I'm a pluralistic therapist, which means I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach. We'll work collaboratively, finding the style and pace of therapy that suits you .
I'm compassionate, down to earth and deeply committed to helping you;
- Understand yourself better
- Build self-compassion and confidence
- Work through painful experiences
- And move towards the life you want to live.
My experience
I bring over 10 years experience in various adult social care settings, and 7 years working with Cradle charity - a pregnancy loss charity very close to my heart, where I am the lead co-ordinator and facilitator of their weekly support groups.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Disability Studies, which strongly shapes my work, particularly in supporting people living with disability, chronic illness, neurodiversity, and the emotional impact of societal barriers.
Supporting people to have a voice, feel seen, and feel empowered has always been at the core of my work.
I have particular experience supporting people with;
- Pregnancy loss, miscarriage, baby loss & infertility
- Bereavement, grief and trauma
- Anxiety, depression & low self esteem
- Disability, chronic illness & Neurodiversity
- Identity, self-worth and life transitions.
I also work with a wide range of other difficulties including relationship issues, stress, burnout, abuse, OCD and more.
