About me

Hi my name is Nick Carling and I am qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and I am fully accredited by the National Counselling Society.

I am based in Lewes, East Sussex and offer counselling to adults (18+) either by face to face, by zoom or by telephone. I offer short term or longer term work depending on the needs of the individual.

As a professional counsellor my role is to offer an authentic, impartial and non-judgemental presence. I will endeavour to support you in understanding your problems by exploring whatever it is that might be going on for you.

Counselling can help us to understand our relationship with ourselves, others and the world around us and in turn support us to make healthier and more meaningful choices in our lives.

I am a firm believer in the human capacity for growth and change. My approach is warm, authentic and down to earth. I endeavour to be open and present and to hold all my clients in high regard.

I am open to working with people irrespective of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, political leanings, religious beliefs or cultural backgrounds. I always work within my own competency and always hold my clients best interests at heart.

I adhere to the National Counselling Societies 'code of ethics' and use regular supervision to support me in my work.

Please either ring or email me to book a free 15-20 min telephone consultation so we can discuss your needs and to see how we might work together. If you wish to proceed then we would meet for an assessment session and agree on a plan going forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Counselling (level 6) and am fully accredited by the National Counselling Society.

I practice a form of psychotherapeutic counselling called use 'Transactional Analysis' (TA).  TA can help us to explore our relationship with ourselves, others and the world around us. It can help us to understand how our early experiences might have influenced those relationships and subsequently our lives.

As well as working with TA I also draw on aspects of Carl Rogers ' person centred' counselling approach and also the work of Carl Jung. Sometimes I may offer some therapeutic theory to support us in our work.

I undertook my first Counselling training back in 1994 and have used those skills on a daily basis ever since.

I have 25 years experience of working with people on the autistic spectrum using music and the arts as a therapeutic framework.

I have 5 years experience of working with and supporting young men involved in the criminal justice system.

I am currently in advanced training working towards a Diploma in Psychotherapy (level 7) accredited by UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy)
