About me

Looking for a counsellor or therapist is hard. There are so many options. It can be intimidating and it can be scary. Out of all these lovely profiles who do you choose? What do all these terms, phrases and types of therapy mean?

So I’ll try and simplify for you…

You: You are anxious or stressed. You are worried about something or you have something on your mind. You realise something is up but not sure which way to turn. You might feel lonely or isolated. You might have health concerns. You might have relationship or family issues. You might be a typical man, not sure who to talk to or what to say. You might have unresolved trauma. You might be grieving. You might have finished school or university and struggling with the next steps. You might have any number of things that are worrying you.

Me: Really good with all the possible You stuff above. I’ve got loads of life experiences. I like football, Star Wars and the occasional beer. I’ve been to the University of life and an actual University. Now a qualified therapist. Will give you the space, the time and the environment to work on whatever it is you want to work on. Will work with you - together, a team - building a rapport and relationship with you is key to everything we do.

If this sounds like a bit of you and you want to start getting that plan together, then you know what to do…

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a diploma (level 6) in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling (Dip Couns) and am a member of the BACP. Humanistic really just means that the focus is on you - what’s going on for you is front and centre of what we’ll do. I will be guided by you. I will work with you and build that environment where you can trust me. I might even occasionally challenge you. To get to the real you. The real reason you’re here.

A long time ago I went to University and also hold a BA (Hons) degree.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

You can expect honesty and integrity. I’m a good listener (really important in this line of work!) and will listen with out judgement. That’s a really important part of therapy. Being listened to without being judged is so rare these days. It affords you the freedom to be who you want to be.

I currently work online with adults and young adults. Sessions will be 50 minutes. Number of sessions is down to you and what you bring but I can do short, medium or long term work.
