About me
I am an integrative relational counsellor who takes as a starting point the belief that relationships are at the core of our experiences. This includes past and current relationships with the people in our lives and with ourselves. Working with the relationship between us as client and therapist can help illuminate some of the issues you may be struggling with, providing a safe and empathic space to explore new ways to be in relationship and in the world.
If you are here, you have likely taken what may feel like a daunting first step to wanting to work through or change something in your life that is causing you unhappiness or distress. I aim to support you to understand and process your experience from a place of compassion and care, and to gently challenge the roles and narratives you may have adopted in order to offer a different perspective which helps you connect more authentically with yourself and who you really are.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from The Minster Centre, one of the UK's leading therapy training institutions, and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.
As an integrative relational counsellor, I draw on different ways of working (including psychodynamic, humanistic, embodied and relational approaches) to respond to the unique issues that may bring you to therapy, looking at past experiences, current challenges, and future hopes and desires. I also pay attention to how our social and cultural contexts shape our experiences and identities and am LGBTQIA-affirmative and strive to embed anti-oppressive practice in the way I work.
I have previously volunteered for a low-cost counselling service and worked in the charity sector supporting people from diverse communities and backgrounds.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
