About me

Hello, my name is Michelle and I am a registered BACP counsellor.

We all experience times when we need some extra space to work through troubles that arise in life. It can be hard to know what we need.  I am here to help you find what that might look like for you.

Having a separate and supportive space, with someone unrelated to your everyday life, can help us to unpick things and feel calmer in ourselves. It can help us to make sense of the past and with feelings of stuck-ness. It can increase our awareness of our patterns in relationships, to support us in finding ways to cope in the here and now and explore hopes for the future.

I offer a space where you won't be judged, where we can explore what you feel is important, at a pace that is right for you. This can be done online, by phone or in person.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is in a Pluralistic approach to counselling. This means that I recognise that there is no one size fits all to counselling. I am trained to adapt to what you need in a person-centred way, trusting that you are the expert in you. However, I do draw on compassion focused, neuro biological, psychodynamic, CBT and narrative approaches, depending on what you feel is most helpful.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

For over 10 years I worked supporting people with acquired communication difficulties (word finding difficulties & slurred speech) as a support worker within the NHS.  Prior to this I worked in a residential bail hostel and volunteered with local organisations such as WRASAC, Couples Counselling Tayside & Dundee Children's Panel.

I currently work within the 3rd sector as a counsellor supporting parents through the peri-natal period, which means during and after pregnancy.

I have experience of counselling clients in many areas.  The most common of these are around pregnancy choices, abortion, miscarriage and fertility difficulties.
