About me
About me
Hello, I'm Megan. I offer a warm, empathetic space to talk through your issues and find solutions that work for you. Perhaps you are struggling with depression or anxiety due to circumstances beyond your control. You may have just left or are thinking of leaving an abusive relationship and find yourself doubting your inner voice or can't find that voice at all. There may be an unresolved trauma you need to process. Whatever your worries are, I provide a truly non-judgemental place to sort through your thoughts and feelings. Unlike friends and family, I have no preconceived ideas about you. I go willingly with you into the grey areas that can make decisions so difficult and confusing.
How I Can Help
I want to know you, not who everyone sees you as. Developing our therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects. How we work from here depends on your individual needs. This is a partnership and we can map out our way as we go. Some people want to talk in a stream of consciousness style for the first few sessions in order to hear themselves out loud. Rest assured, I am listening and remembering so we can go back to the sticking points when you are ready. Some people need homework or assignments to keep them on task between sessions. Others may prefer a more creative way of working. This can come in many forms, from clay to painting and/or drawing. Others find it helpful to write out a timeline of events. The visual creates perspective and helps us find patterns in behaviour.
Who I Work With
I specialise in working with victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. I also work with many trauma cases outside these issues, including people who have been victims of a crime. I’ve worked in pre-trial therapy and understand how to work in tandem with a potential or current legal case.
My domestic abuse work has led me to work with people who have been victimised by cults or other high-control groups. The effects of these types of groups are often not dissimilar to those in a domestic abuse situation.
Other mental health issues I work with include depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, family issues, grief and many other mental health issues.
I also welcome clients who are not at a crisis point. Sometimes, we need to speak to someone else in order to hear our own voice. Seeking counselling at this point can help prevent depression and anxiety down the road.
I welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as those with neurodiversity. I accept clients aged 16 and above.
Life Experience
As an American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I have witnessed attitudes of counselling change for the better, and it's exciting to be a part of this.
My experience in counselling rooms as a client has probably been the most important part of my training. I believe in this process wholeheartedly. I know it can be difficult but also life-changing. I am secure in my work with clients in that I never ask them to do anything I have not done myself. I understand the weight of it and would consider it a privilege to be invited on your journey.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
