About me

About me

Hi, I'm Megan. Starting counselling can feel daunting but it doesn't have to be. I simply want to hear what's on your mind. I offer a warm, empathetic space to talk through your issues and find solutions that work for you. Perhaps you are struggling with depression or anxiety due to circumstances beyond your control. There may be an unresolved trauma you need to process. You may simply find yourself feeling stressed and can't quite pinpoint the cause. Whatever your worries are, I provide a non-judgemental place to sort through your thoughts and feelings. Unlike friends and family, I have no preconceived ideas about you. I go willingly with you into the grey areas that can make decisions so difficult and confusing.

How I Can Help

Developing our therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects. How we work from here depends on your individual needs. I like to work collabroatively and am flexible in my approach as I find that the most empowering way to ensure the work we do together has lasting effects in your life.

Who I Work With

I work with depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, family issues, work problems, grief and many other mental health issues.

I also welcome clients who are not at a crisis point. Sometimes, we need to speak to someone else in order to hear our own voice. Seeking counselling at this point can help prevent depression and anxiety down the road.

I also work closely with clients who have been through trauma due to domestic abuse and sexual violence.

I welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as those with neurodiversity. I accept clients aged 16 and above.

Life Experience

As an American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I have witnessed attitudes of counselling change for the better, and it's exciting to be a part of this.

My experience in counselling rooms as a client has probably been the most important part of my training. I believe in this process wholeheartedly. I know it can be difficult but also life-changing. I am secure in my work with clients in that I never ask them to do anything I have not done myself. I understand the weight of it and would consider it a privilege to be invited on your journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
