About me

Coming to counselling can be the first step towards reaching out to another person when life can feel overwhelming and difficult.

I am a person-centred counsellor offering a supportive, comfortable space for you to explore any difficult issues you may be struggling with. My approach is non-directive, warm, confidential and non-judgemental, where you can express freely in your own way and at your own pace.

Change can begin to happen when we have greater awareness and understanding of our situation, enabling us to view our issues from different perspectives. The therapeutic relationship offers the unique experience of being listened to and accepted in all that you bring. Through working together we can find a way for you to move forward, to feel more empowered and make the changes needed for a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

I also use a more creative, embodied approach through somatic explorations and imagery. This helps us to understand, at a visceral level, the emotions that lie beneath our words. We’re often not aware of how much tension or distress we hold in our body and through gentle explorations we can bring to light buried feelings that may originate from past or present situations.

With both talking and creative approaches, or integrating both, I welcome working with issues such as lack of worth, loneliness, anxiety, depression, loss of identity, addictions, sadness, grief, anger, spirituality and more.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified, insured Person centred counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Post Graduate Diploma in Dance Movement Psychotherapy and am a registered member of the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy (ADMP)

Training Certificate through Pathways2Wellbeing, working with people with medically unexplained symptoms

Certificate in Authentic Movement. A creative, therapeutic movement form to help bring understanding and meaning to buried feelings and emotions in our unconscious self.

Certificate in Move Into Life, a mindful approach to the body, movement and ecology.

As a therapist, movement practitioner and artist I have over 30 years of experience working therapeutically and creatively with people of all ages and abilities. This includes working for many years as a movement psychotherapist within the NHS in psychiatric hospitals and day centres and working with babies and young children in movement play to help integrate connections between the body, thinking and emotions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
