About me

Hello and welcome to Sunshine & Showers Counselling. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I appreciate you doing this.

My journey into the counselling profession began in 2002 following my experience as a client. At the time, my family was going through a difficult time after a heartbreaking disclosure, which had rippling effects throughout my world. Through the work with my counsellor, I discovered so much about myself. Not only because of this event, but also by exploring my childhood, teen years & marriage, along with many other areas of my life. It felt like a magic wand had been waved, which created a curiosity for me to know more about myself, as nothing else had. From this experience, I made a vow to myself that I would do whatever it took to be able to help others find themselves, too. This focus fits my heartfelt values, believing everyone deserves to be heard and seen.

I have continued to receive therapy over subsequent years as I realised the value of it and the understanding it gave me of my life.

It has taken me quite some time to get to this point as a counsellor/psychotherapist; however, I do believe it is the right time for me due to the personal development, self-awareness and growth which I have worked hard to gain, to fulfil the promise I made all those years ago.

I am now very proud to let you know that, as an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist, using many modalities, knowledge and skills, I offer you a welcoming, empathic, non-judgmental space for us to work together in a therapeutic relationship, to help you explore and understand yourself. Furthermore, using solution-focused therapy, we can work towards you becoming your best self and creating the life you choose to live.

I am insured with holistic counselling and psychotherapy services.

I look forward to hearing from you and would love to be a part of your healing journey.

Warm thoughts,

Mary

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
