About me
Although counselling cannot change what has happened to you, it can transform your relationship with what has happened to you, helping you to live a life which feels happier, freer, and more authentic.
You may be experiencing a dawning awareness that familiar ways of coping no longer seem to be working, and this is leaving you filled with anxiety and overwhelm, perhaps struggling with low self-esteem and low self-confidence, and wondering how to manage everyday life; or maybe quite numb, as if you are living on autopilot, going through the motions of life rather than actually living it.
Relationships may not be going the way you want them to, resulting in you feeling confused, angry, or disappointed, wondering what just happened, which way to turn, and what it is you actually want.
As a relational attachment-focused therapist, I will help you to dig deep and learn about yourself in a way you haven’t before. Together we will explore who you are in relationships, the ways you have learnt to protect yourself, the reasons this may not be working for you anymore, and the underlying (and often unrecognised) beliefs you hold about yourself which may be preventing you from being able to move forward in a way which feels right for you.
I work face-to-face and online with people aged 16 and upwards.
Training, qualifications & experience
Training and Qualifications
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at East Riding College
Core therapeutic training which has provided a solid foundation to enable me to offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship.
Foundation Course in Bereavement Support (Cruse)
This course has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to be alongside you as you process your grief, supporting you to move from the comfort of a loving presence to the warmth of a loving absence.
Level 2 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
As a result of this training, I have a deep understanding of how early neglect, trauma, and broken attachments in someone’s life can impact who they are, how they feel about themselves, and how they relate to others.
This means that I am also an adoption-competent therapist and, in fully acknowledging the unique challenges experienced by adoptive families, I am qualified to support adoptive parents, as well as adults who were adopted as children.
Towards a Dialectical Self Trauma Training (with Dr Gordon Barclay)
This specific type of trauma therapy aims to 'resource' a client to empower them to process their trauma in a way which prevents them from feeling overwhelmed, or having to disconnect from their feelings to protect themselves.
Professional Development in Relational Integrative Psychotherapy
This area of professional development has inspired an interest in how our experiences with our earliest caregivers can shape our (often unconscious) expectations in all of our relationships, enabling me to support people to consider the development and usefulness of their own relational patterns.
Other Qualifications
2.1 Degree in English Literature and Educational Studies
Level 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Experience
As a parent carer and a former governor of a local school for children with additional needs, I have been actively involved in supporting families on a one-to-one and a group basis for almost 20 years. This led to me having an active role in promoting mental health awareness within the local community, speaking at several professional training events.
Having witnessed and experienced first hand the struggles and complexities of family life and wider relationships, I became aware of how counselling can make a positive difference to someone’s life and began professional training to empower me to use my experiences to help others.
My own therapist offered me the invaluable experience of feeling truly accepted, creating a trusting environment in which I felt safe enough to lower my defences and reflect on my own process. This inspired an insatiable curiosity as I began to make sense of what had happened to me, finding the words to say the unsayable, and developing the emotional awareness and robustness to feel what was previously unfelt.
I found therapy to be a transformative and life changing experience as I gained a renewed sense of self and purpose, rediscovering my place in the world, ‘unbecoming’ everything I had learnt I *should* be, ultimately becoming happier just being me………..
……….and this is what I now bring to you.
Please contact me if you too feel ready to embark on a voyage of self-discovery.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
