About me
Welcome, I am Maria Ángeles, an integrative counsellor based in South London.
Looking for therapy is the first step in an extraordinary journey of self-awareness, self-care, transformation and growth, and I would be honoured to share the journey with you.
I believe in co-creating a curious, safe and non-judgemental space where you can feel seen, heard and held. I am supportive and challenging with the aim of empowering you.
With a bilingual upbringing and continued bond to other languages, I am highly appreciative of what and how we communicate, verbally and non-verbally. And with lived experience in Spain and the United Kingdom, I bring an understanding of culture, traditions and community, and the significance of family background, change, loneliness, life transitions, adaptation and acceptance.
My background in education provides a strong foundation in therapy to encourage self-knowledge, resilience, elicit inner wisdom and develop autonomy. It also enables me to have an appreciation of social pressures, expectations, and the importance of building nurturing and meaningful relationships.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I offer a 30-minute initial consultation free of charge, either on the phone or on Zoom, that you can book via email. It is an opportunity to ask any questions about the process of therapy and working together.
During the initial consultation, we will look at the circumstances that have brought you to therapy, and what you would like to get out of the experience. If you decide you want to work with me, we can discuss further sessions and how we might work together moving forward.

Further information
As an integrative counsellor, I work alongside you to facilitate exploration of the feelings, thoughts and behaviours, past and present, that have brought you here today; how they impact your life and how they manifest in your relationships with others.
I understand that each person is unique and so, I work according to your needs to help you gain insight and a better understanding of who you are and what you are experiencing; and, ultimately, explore together what it means for you to live more authentically and meaningfully.
I draw from different approaches; mostly, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Gestalt. I can also offer solution-focused therapy, and I like to use creative tools on occasion if you believe it can support the work and you are open to it.
Having worked within short-term settings in the NHS and longer-term, I can offer short or long-term therapy which is understanding of your circumstances and supportive of your needs.
As a registered member of the BACP, I work within its ethical framework and continue to attend training and supervision to keep my practice informed and my clients safe.
