About me
You may have reached a point where you know something needs to change, but you can’t quite work out what.
Perhaps your confidence has taken a knock, a relationship has become difficult, you’re constantly second guessing yourself, or life has simply become more complicated than you know how to deal with.
Sometimes there isn’t one obvious problem. There are several things tangled together and you don’t know where to start.
I’m naturally curious about people and what sits underneath the way we think, feel and behave. I help people make sense of what is happening, rather than simply focusing on the problem in front of us.
I’m an integrative counsellor and adapt my way of working to the person sitting in front of me. Attachment theory is an important foundation of my work and can help us understand how early experiences and relationships can shape the way we see ourselves, relate to others and respond to situations in the present.
You don’t need to arrive knowing the answers. We can start with whatever is going on for you and see what emerges.
I’m warm and approachable, but I’m also honest and direct. I won’t simply agree with everything you say. Sometimes a different perspective or a gentle challenge is what is needed.
I believe therapy should help you understand yourself and, ultimately, help you help yourself. My aim is for you to develop the confidence and self-awareness to trust your own judgement.
Training, qualifications & experience
My training is broad and continues to develop alongside my practice. I regularly undertake further CPD and training to keep my knowledge and practice current.
- MSc Attachment Theory
- BA Integrative Counselling
- Diploma in Couples Counselling
- Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People
- Certificate in Narcissistic Behaviour
- Foundation for Infant Loss Practitioner Training
- Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision
- Psychodynamic training
- Suicide awareness training
I work with adults, couples, teenagers and young people, as well as trainee counsellors seeking personal therapy as part of their training. I also provide supervision to student counsellors and qualified therapists.
Earlier in my career, I worked with vulnerable military veterans. I also lived and worked abroad for more than 20 years, in different countries and cultures. These experiences taught me to be adaptable, tolerate uncertainty, look at things from different perspectives and find my feet in unfamiliar situations.
I’m comfortable with complexity and with difficult conversations and emotions. If something comes up in our work that I don’t know enough about, I’m quite happy to go away and find out more.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I live with dyslexia myself, and it has never held me back. If anything, it has made me more determined. I understand the challenges that come with it, but I also know they don’t have to become limitations or define what you achieve. I bring that perspective to my work with young people, helping them look beyond the difficulties and recognise what they are capable of.
I also understand the impact dementia has on families. Supporting my mum through it gave me a real understanding of the complicated mixture of love, loss, frustration and responsibility that comes with caring for someone with dementia.

Couples
Couples counselling doesn’t have to be a last resort. You don’t have to be at a crisis point before asking for help.
You may care about your relationship but find yourselves falling into the same patterns, having the same arguments or struggling to communicate what you actually mean.
I work with couples who want to improve their relationship and are prepared to do the work together. Both people need to be willing to look at what is happening between them and take some responsibility for their part.
I also work with individuals who are trying to understand difficulties within their relationships or repeated patterns in their choice of partners.
Young people and teenagers
I listen carefully to what young people have to say, remember the details that matter to them and take them seriously. Building that connection can help them talk openly about what is actually going on.
We can look at what sits underneath the situation, think about choices, relationships, confidence and direction, and help them develop the understanding and confidence to make good decisions for themselves and their future.
Trainee counsellors
I offer personal therapy for trainee counsellors as part of their training. Personal therapy can provide an opportunity to explore your own experiences, understand yourself more deeply and consider how your own patterns and experiences may influence your work with clients.
You might know exactly what you want to work on. You might not. Either is fine. We can go from wherever you are.
