About me

Compassionate counselling for adults, young people, and children - in the heart of Peebles, Scottish Borders.

Life can feel messy. We all go through times when things are confusing, overwhelming, or simply too much. Anxiety, low mood, self-doubt, loss - whatever shape it takes - can leave you feeling unsettled and unsure of how to move forward.

Are you navigating a difficult patch, or perhaps something just doesn’t feel right, even if you’re not sure why? Whatever has brought you here, you’re not alone, and support is available

I’m Maggie Henderson, a counsellor based in Peebles, offering thoughtful, down-to-earth support for adults, young people, and children. I offer a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly, even if things feel complicated, unclear or hard to explain.

Are you feeling anxious, stuck, or low in confidence?

Is your child worried about school, struggling with friendships, or facing big emotions they can’t name?

Whatever you or your child are dealing with, counselling can be a space to begin making sense of it all.

We’ll work at your pace to gently explore what’s going on and how it’s affecting you. I won’t offer advice or ready-made answers, instead I’ll listen closely and work with you to find the way forward that feels right for you or your child.

With younger clients, I use creative, age-appropriate approaches that help them feel at ease and express themselves in their own way.

Reaching out for support isn’t always easy, but it can be a powerful first step towards change. If you’re ready to take the next step or just want to find out more, feel free to get in touch. I’d be happy to answer any questions or arrange an initial session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

When I work

Weekedays 9am-6pm.

I understand how important it is for children and teenagers not to miss too much school, so where possible I have sessions available during lunch and after school.

Further information

I also have training in counselling within a Christian context, so if your faith is an important part of your life, we can incorporate that into the counselling process. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals affected by spiritual abuse and families of missionaries.

I respect all beliefs and perspectives, so if you don't have a faith or come from a different belief system, I can still work with you. My goal is always to focus on your individual needs and goals in a safe, supportive environment, regardless of your beliefs
