About me
As a compassionate, empathetic, and determined individual, I possess tremendous passion for my work. Certified and accredited as a pluralistic counsellor, I have knowledge and training in 3 main therapeutic modalities: psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). With several years’ experience in multiple areas, predominately anxiety, depression, and grief, I have learned the importance of healing on the deepest, emotional levels.
In addition to my professional knowledge and training I also have personal experience with poor mental health – I struggled enormously with anxiety and depression as a child, teen, and young adult. More than a decade ago, I began learning how to transform my own life, cultivating a dual sense of purpose and contentment along the way. Having walked the walk, so to speak, I wholeheartedly attest to the transformative power of healing one’s inner wounds. A purposeful, peaceful, and joyful life is possible, and I’m extremely passionate about helping you achieve this along your personal healing journey.
I enjoy physical exercise, reading, and meditation – all of which help me to feel good whilst benefitting my career as a counsellor.
About my Service (Cullen Counselling):
Your healing is at the forefront of my counselling practice.
I offer online and telephone counselling sessions on a one-to-one basis. Our sessions will be a cooperative process – we will work together to help you heal. A safe, non-judgmental environment is key to my practice. Together, we will target your most difficult and painful emotions, but only when you’re ready to do so.
Session 1
After a brief phone call or email exchange to confirm a date and time, we will have our first counselling session. In this initial session: we will discuss your therapeutic goals, there will be some information gathering, you will be free to raise any concerns or queries, and we will begin our therapeutic work. I offer Session 1 at a reduced rate to allow you to sample my work and decide if you wish to continue.
Our Process: Working With Your Inner System
Each person has their own inner system which is unique to them. I define the inner system as: the totality of our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviours, their relationships to each other, and our relationship to them. Oftentimes, we seek therapy because we are struggling with part of our inner system; for example, we may constantly think negative thoughts, believe we are worthless, feel anxious, or behave aggressively. Of course, it can be totally overwhelming when our inner system is in a state of torment. However, there is good news: healing is possible!
As we establish a safe and trusting relationship, we will gently venture inside your inner system to uncover and understand your deepest emotional states; we will learn what these emotions are telling you, the reasons they began, and why they continue to exist. On a deep level, when we are hurting it’s because part of us is carrying pain. Unless we address this pain carefully and compassionately to discover its meaning, it may continue behind the scenes to wreak havoc on our inner system. With this felt experience, we open a world of opportunity for self-acceptance, personal growth, and happiness.
