About me
Hello, I’m Maddie, an experienced counsellor based in the centre of Bath.
Perhaps you're considering therapy because you're battling with anxiety, struggling to get past a difficult experience, finding relationships in your life challenging or simply feeling that something isn't right and that you need change. Whatever your experience might be, I offer a warm and supportive space for you to explore what's brought you to counselling.
Often these feelings can lead to you feeling stuck and lost, not knowing what you need for yourself. Counselling can make a significant impact to you and your life, providing you with the space and time to better understand yourself. I’m here to walk alongside you as you do, uncovering how your past might still be impacting you, noticing when feelings are most active, which relationships are the most challenging and exploring the patterns that may be holding you back from making the change you need.
My approach
It can be hard to explain how you're feeling to other people without a fear of being misunderstood or feeling like a burden. I can help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings without judgement, with empathy and understanding.
I’m a humanistic integrative counsellor, which means I see you as the expert on your own life. My role is to help you access that inner understanding, offering guidance, challenge and insight along the way.
Being integrative means I draw on a range of counselling theories to tailor the work to you. There’s no one-size-fits-all in therapy; together, we’ll find an approach that fits your needs, goals, and pace.
What working together looks like
The relationship between us is central to our work, allowing you to feel safe and secure to share difficult feelings which you might not yet fully understand.
In weekly sessions we might explore:
- how your past is shaping your present
- patterns in your behaviour and relationships
- your sense of self
- your feelings, even those that you keep hidden from others
How I work
We’ll meet weekly for 50-minute sessions, working at a pace that feels right for you.
I place a strong emphasis on building a genuine, trusting relationship. I’ll offer empathy, careful listening, and a non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and honestly, without fear of being misunderstood or dismissed. Feeling safe, seen, and supported is the foundation for meaningful change.
Whatever brings you to therapy, we’ll explore it together. Our work can help you make sense of your experiences, connect more deeply with your feelings, and move towards the life you want.
In-person and online sessions
I offer face-to-face sessions from a warm, welcoming room in the centre of Bath. I also have a limited number of online sessions available for clients who prefer to work remotely.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, where I undertook a level 6 diploma in humanistic integrative counselling. I am a registered member of the BACP (membership number 00980056). The BACP Register is a public record of counsellors and psychotherapists who meet or exceed the BACP's recommended quality standards. These standards cover training, supervision, continuing professional development and a contractual commitment to the BACP's Ethical Framework.
In addition to running my own counselling practice, I worked for the Low Cost Counselling Service in Bath, providing counselling to those on low incomes, those who are unemployed, students, and those in receipt of state benefits. I also worked for two years with students at Bath Spa University in their wellbeing team as a counsellor.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
