About me
Hello, I’m Lynn Guyan. I appreciate you visiting my profile and understand that beginning counselling can feel intimidating, so I’d like to introduce myself in hopes it helps you take that first step.
Since 2022, I’ve supported adults and young people (aged 10–18) across private, public, and third sector settings. The counselling approach I use is pluralistic and integrative - meaning I tailor each session to meet you exactly where you are, drawing on a range of evidence-based techniques to support your journey. As a pluralistic and integrative counsellor, I understand that no two individuals are the same and neither are their paths to healing. I create a compassionate, safe and flexible space for exploration and growth. Every person’s story is different and I tailor my approach to honour your unique needs, strengths and goals.
Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready to face the past and shape your future, I offer a safe, supportive space to explore what matters most to you. Healing is deeply personal and I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy, respect, and care.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have always worked in a helping profession, from supporting adults with additional needs both in their homes and wider community, to supporting young people in residential settings. I also practised as a complementary therapist some years ago, providing therapies aimed at improving mental health and well-being. This role inspired me to pursue counselling, with the aim of integrating both practices to enhance mental health outcomes for my clients.
My studies in counselling began in 2010. In 2015, I made the decision to study at Abertay University, enrolling in the BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling degree, and I graduated from the MSc Counselling programme in 2023. Through my role as a school counsellor with Alternatives Dundee, in 2025 I gained my Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People with Moira Hood and Rachel Eastop at Essential Training Associates Ltd.
With specialist training as a trauma-enhanced practitioner, my work is grounded in compassion and deep respect for those navigating the complexities of trauma. I have extensive experience supporting individuals impacted by alcohol and substance use, complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety and depression, as well as working closely with young people in a school setting. In my role as a school counsellor, I support children and young people through a wide range of challenges, helping them feel safe, heard, and empowered, building on their resilience and improving mental health and wellbeing.
I’m passionate about the outdoors, often spending time at my allotment. I believe nature offers therapeutic benefits and I recently trained to provide Walk and Talk therapy sessions, which can be particularly supportive for clients with complex trauma by helping to ease the intensity of traditional face-to-face sessions.
My approach is flexible, compassionate, and always tailored to the unique needs of each person I work with. At the heart of my practice is a belief in the power of connection, collaboration and creating a safe space for healing.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
