About me
Hello and welcome. My name is Lucy Flitton. I am a bi-lingual in English and French Integrative Psychotherapist (Registered member of the BACP) MBACP (Accre) and Psychologist. I am also a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I am also a Philosophical and Mindfulness Coach. I have my own online private practice and work with people all over the world. The approaches that make up my therapeutic practice include Person-Centred counselling, Psychodynamics, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Existential therapy. The psychodynamic approach is based on Freudian and Jungian theories. I also apply Humanistic/Existential principles to my way of working. Additionally, the way in which I apply these different methods is influenced by the goals which have been set by the client. I offer a trusting, empathic, and non-judgemental relationship in which individuals can discuss their concerns safely and openly. This way of being is heavily grounded within Humanistic therapy principles.
My personal philosophy is based on Humanistic Existential philosophy; that all individuals have the ability and the need to develop their full potential in the right environment, free of emotional turmoil and chaos. Firmly believing that past, and particularly parent-child relationships during the early years have a strong influence on growing emotional well-being, my background as a Developmental Psychologist helps me apply a life course perspective to my therapeutic work, which aims to alleviate psychological distress. Based on Existential principles concerning the human need to acquire a 'personal authentic sense of self', I also believe that psychotherapy offers people the opportunity to fulfill their potential and become the best they can be via gaining improved self-awareness and self-care. The therapeutic relationship is therefore the principal element to any Psychotherapeutic encounter with a client.
Originating from a therapeutic background in mental health and having worked in a number of services and charities, I have developed a wide experience and interest in different types of trauma, especially of childhood trauma, including abuse of all kinds, and neglect. I have also much experience working with individuals with addiction problems and co-occurring mental health problems.
Training, qualifications & experience
Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (MBACP)
BSc Psychology (Hons)
MSc Family and Child Psychology
Certificate on the Development of Children's Attitudes and Behaviours
PhD Philosophy and Art
Certificate in Existential and Mindfulness Coaching
My professional experience has involved me working with various client populations. I have worked within a number of different organisations such as Turning Point and Phoenix Futures, services offering residential treatment for substance abuse, CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Early Intervention Service, Cheshire Probation, and CSVSS (Chester Sexual Violence Support Service).
I also hold a PhD in Philosophy of art, which informs my therapeutic practice by helping clients express themselves in a different and creative way. This encourages individual freedom to express emotions and feelings in the best way for clients, which in turn values the uniqueness of all individuals. The use of client creative expression might also inform our collaborative exploration of any subconscious elements that may bring about further awareness for clients.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.
In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Originating from my background within substance abuse rehabilitation services, working with individuals who had often experienced different types of abuse during childhood, I have developed an awareness concerning the link between parent-child relationships during the early years of a child's life, and substance abuse as well as future emotional well-being. This has led me to gain a special interest in working therapeutically with survivors of abuse; particularly, childhood abuse and neglect. Consequently, this has often led my therapeutic work to explore parent-child relationships and the impact they have on an individual's psychological health.
My therapeutic work has also developed my knowledge about the link between childhood and adult abuse, including that of domestic abuse. Due to this, I have recently begun working therapeutically with women who have experienced domestic abuse and/or violence and the impact this has often had on their psychological health and parenting abilities.
My therapeutic awareness is supported by my academic work as a developmental Psychologist specialising in Family and Child Psychology.
