About me
Welcome. I am Lucy Bishop (she/her), an integrative therapist working with adults from my purpose-built garden therapy room in the Goldington area of Bedford. I also offer online sessions for those who prefer or need to meet remotely.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. You might be feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, anxious or low, or be navigating grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, questions around identity, intimacy or sexuality, chronic illness, or your experience of neurodiversity. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking support; at other times, it may simply be a feeling that something does not quite feel right.
Whatever brings you to therapy, I do not believe you can be reduced to a diagnosis, label or list of difficulties. I am interested in you as a whole person and in understanding your experiences within the context of your life and relationships.
My approach is warm, calm and collaborative. I offer a space where you can be honest, curious, and vulnerable without fear of judgement. We can take time to understand what you are experiencing, explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, and consider what meaningful change might look like for you.
All sessions take place in my garden therapy room or online. I aim to create a welcoming, private, and comfortable environment where you can feel at ease.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I am an integrative therapist, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. My work is informed by psychodynamic, person-centred and existential approaches, allowing us to explore your experiences in a way that feels most helpful for you.
I believe therapy is relational. The relationship we build together is not simply a part of the work, but the work itself. I aim to offer a warm, safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can feel genuinely heard and supported. Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships, with curiosity and compassion.
I will not give you advice or tell you what you should do. Instead, we will work collaboratively, drawing on my experience and perspective alongside your own knowledge of yourself and your life. We can explore patterns that may have developed over time, make sense of difficult experiences, and consider what might help you move towards greater self-awareness, confidence and a life that feels more authentic to you.
For some people, having specific goals is helpful, while for others therapy is more about having space to reflect, process and understand themselves. We can discuss what you are hoping for from therapy and revisit this as our work develops.
I offer open-ended therapy, with regular reviews so that we can consider how things are progressing and whether continuing feels helpful. When the time is right, we will work towards ending therapy thoughtfully and collaboratively.
My garden-based therapy room is accessed via a side passage gravel entrance to the side of my house, which is well lit at night. There is a locked gate and a video doorbell so you can let me know you have arrived. In order to access the therapy space, you need to be able to navigate a few steps/stairs down from some decking.
