About me

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Louise Catherine Taylor and I am an accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor, registered with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

I have experience in helping clients with a wide range of difficulties including relationship issues, trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, anxiety, and depression.  As a former special education tutor, I also have extensive experience of working with individuals with autism spectrum conditions, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning needs such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I have been an actor, a dance and drama teacher, a lecturer in a specialist college for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism spectrum conditions, an assistant to an Art Therapist in Singapore, and I worked for many years offering tuition and mentoring to university students experiencing mental health difficulties.

My therapeutic style is truly eclectic, meaning that I am not bound by any particular style or set of techniques. I am trained in person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, and expressive therapies (for example, art, music, movement and storymaking.) I have undertaken extensive additional training to enable me to work safely with traumatised clients, including the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

In my spare time, I enjoy martial arts, running and yoga. I am a member of Playback Theatre, a company who perform audience members' stories with improvised theatre and music. My creativity shines through in my therapeutic work and I can promise you that I will not be "that therapist" who responds like a robot. And if you can't find the words or talking is hard, we can work in other ways. For example, drawing or expressive writing. No special artistic skill is needed as there is no "right" way to be creative.

I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process. I will not tell you what to do, nor will I claim to have all of the answers. I will listen to you without judging and I will provide a safe space where you can find your own answers.

It is important to find the right therapist, therefore I offer a free online “meet and greet” session where we can discuss your needs and you can decide if the therapy that I offer best meets your needs.

I am currently available for online appointments via Zoom or from my home in Wigan.

Please feel free to contact me by email to arrange an initial “meet and greet” appointment.
