About me
About me
Life can feel overwhelming at times. You might be struggling with anxiety, low mood, past trauma, relationship difficulties, or a general sense that something isn’t right, even if you can’t quite put it into words. You may be facing a difficult life event, feeling exhausted by stress, or finding that old patterns keep repeating.
You don’t have to work through this alone.
I offer a warm, calm, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what’s going on for you, at your own pace, and begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings.
My background – 20 years in the NHS
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 20 years working as a nurse in the NHS, specialising in cancer care, hospice work, and accident & emergency. During this time, I supported people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives — grief, trauma, uncertainty, illness, and loss.
This experience deeply shapes how I work as a therapist today. It taught me how to sit with difficult emotions without trying to fix or rush them, and how important it is to feel truly heard, understood, and safe.
Clients often tell me they feel at ease quickly because my approach is calm, compassionate, and genuine.
Who I work with
People come to counselling for many reasons. I regularly support clients with:
Anxiety and panic attacks
Depression and low self-esteem
Trauma and past experiences
Relationship and family difficulties
Work-related stress and burnout
Bereavement and loss
Emotional or sexual abuse
Life changes, feeling stuck, or lacking direction
Menopause / peri-menopause
Health anxiety and illness-related worries
Sometimes the problem is clear, other times, people simply know they don’t feel like themselves anymore, and want help understanding why.
How I work
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs. I believe that everyone is unique, so therapy should be tailored to you rather than using the same method for everyone.
You are not seen as a list of symptoms, but as a whole person with your own experiences, strengths, and challenges.
Our work together may involve:
Exploring your thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive space
Understanding patterns from the past that may still affect you now
Finding ways to manage anxiety, stress, or overwhelming emotions
Building confidence, self-esteem, and self-compassion
Making sense of difficult or painful experiences
Gaining clarity about what you want from life and how to move forward
My style is warm, down-to-earth, and compassionate. I aim to create a calm, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and at your own pace. I also offer gentle challenge when it feels helpful, to support real change and growth. I will regularly check in with you to make sure our work feels right and is helping in the way you need.
I am a registered member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework. I attend regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my work remains safe, supportive, and effective.

My previous career in the NHS, where I worked for 20 years in cancer care, hospice care and accident & emergency, gave me a deep understanding of how people cope with trauma, loss, uncertainty and life-changing events. This experience continues to inform my work as a counsellor.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from York St John University and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am fully insured, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I work within the BACP ethical framework and attend regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my work remains safe, effective and up to date.
Clients often choose to work with me because they want a counsellor who is calm, experienced, and comfortable working with difficult or emotional situations.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
