About me

About me

Do you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck? I'm Louise, a counsellor in Exmouth  offering in-person and online counselling across Devon and the UK — for adults navigating anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and the emotional impact of big change.

Many people come to me feeling like they've been managing alone for a long time — carrying on day to day, but quietly struggling underneath. If that sounds familiar, I may be able to help.

In our sessions, we slow things down. You'll have space to talk openly and honestly, without judgement, at your own pace. I'll listen with care and curiosity — and together we can begin to understand what's been difficult, and what might need to change.

How I work
As an integrative counsellor, I don't work from a single fixed approach. Instead I draw on a range of methods depending on what feels most useful for you — whether that's exploring patterns that go back a long way, or making sense of something more recent.

Who I work with

I support adults who are struggling with:

Anxiety, overwhelm, or constant overthinking
Harsh self-criticism and low self-worth
Big life changes and times of transition — relationship breakdown, redundancy, children leaving home, menopause, retirement, career change
The impact of difficult early relationships or past trauma
Questions of belonging, self-acceptance, or neurodivergence
A sense that something needs to change, but not knowing where to start

What to expect

In our first session we'll take time to explore what's brought you to counselling and what you're hoping for. From there, sessions are led by you.

Sessions are 60 minutes and we'd usually meet weekly, though I can be flexible about what works for you. My role isn't to fix or advise, but to offer a space where you can begin to understand yourself a little better.

Taking that first step can feel daunting — and sometimes it's hard to feel like your problems are worth bringing at all. They are. If anything here has resonated, you can book a free, no obligation, 20-minute intro call directly through this page or contact me by text 07969212629 or email hello@louiseaveriescounselling.com.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an FdA in Integrative Counselling from the University of Worcester and am a registered member of the BACP, working in line with their ethical framework. I continue to grow my practice through regular supervision, CPD and reflective work.

Alongside my private practice, I volunteer with the Intercom Trust, a South West charity supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, and the Quiet Mind Centre, a local low-cost counselling service. I've also previously volunteered with Samaritans, supporting people in distress and crisis.

These experiences have shaped my calm, responsive style and deepened my understanding of a wide range of emotional needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have developed a particular interest in working with women who feel overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected from themselves.
In my experience, when these patterns are brought into the light, they often become clearer and more understandable. Change is rarely quick or easy, but with patience, compassion and gentle challenge, it is possible to begin recognising the patterns at play and your role within them.
You can read more about this area of my work on my website.
