About me

Welcome! Looking through lots of different profiles can be overwhelming can’t it? Especially when you might not be sure what you are looking for.

My name is Lizz and I am an integrative, person centred psychotherapeutic counsellor, but what does that actually mean?

Well, at the heart of my work is the relationship you and I will build, which in itself can be a vehicle for healing, comfort and support. I believe strongly in your own inner capacity to know what you need, so I will be alongside you as a guide and a trusted person in your corner.

I will welcome you with openness and warmth and can offer a safe, confidential space to explore what is holding you back from living more fully and freely. Sessions are always on your terms and led by your individual needs.

I will bring compassion and authenticity to our work together and whether you are navigating here and now challenges, or seeking to heal from past experiences, I will hold space for your full self, prioritising collaboration and your autonomy.

Working anti-oppressively means I am mindful of power and privilege and how our identity and circumstances impact how we experience the world. I am neuro-affirming and have years of experience supporting marginalised groups.

Therapy can be life changing, but you may feel apprehensive. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with me, so get in touch and we can arrange a no pressure free introductory call.

I really look forward to hearing from you soon.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy.

  • MA (Merit) Youth & Community at Durham University.
  • BA (Hons) Communication Arts at University of York St John.

My professional and academic background in the Youth & Community sector, has shaped my practice, emphasising strong relationships, safety, and trauma-informed care. I have supported diverse communities, including those affected by trauma, exploitation, abuse, and discrimination. As a dedicated ally to marginalised groups, I have pursued specialist training in working with neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients, maintaining an intersectional perspective on systemic barriers.

  • ‘Cothu’ - Understanding Autism from a lived experience perspective
  • Beyond the Binary - Creating safe spaces for Trans and Gender Non Conforming Clients

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
