About me

I provide counselling that helps with self worth, difficult relationships, family issues, adult children estranged from their parents and men's mental health.

Are you wondering how to feel happy again? Many people come to therapy after holding things together for a long time. Feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or stuck, they aren’t always sure what’s wrong or what they need help with. My role is to provide you with clear, steady, support helping you to find yourself again, whilst working together on the things you want to change and most importantly bring some happiness back into your life.

Welcome

I'm Liza and I offer counselling for adults who feel overwhelmed, guilty, or “not enough”, often due to being part of a difficult relationship and who are now ready to work through their feelings.

Many clients appear to be coping on the outside, while on the inside they feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, anxious, and disconnected from themselves.

Counselling with me is a warm, trauma-informed, neuro-affirming space where you don’t have to explain yourself, justify yourself, or feel like you need to have everything worked out. Together, we will gently focus on rebuilding your self-worth, easing guilt, and helping you reconnect with who you are, all done at your own pace, with lots of empathy, compassion and most probably a few laughs. Clients often tell me they like my friendly, relaxed and down to earth style.

How I work

I offer face to face counselling in Great Moor in Stockport, whilst online counselling offers support from your own space at flexible times to suit you. My approach is collaborative, compassionate and balanced. I don’t see you as a problem to be fixed, but as a person who has lived through difficult moments, who feels their life story deeply, and who needs to find who they are again.

Before establishing Elbee Counselling I worked as a counsellor at South Manchester Centre for Counselling.  I retrained as a counsellor after a long career in management, in Plumbing and Builders Merchanting. This helps me to bring a practical, real world understanding of why people might want to come to counselling, alongside my professional training and experience as a counsellor.

Clients often come to me for support with:

  • Low self-worth and harsh self-criticism
  • Wanting to find happiness again
  • Anxiety, anger or depression, that is affection their relationships
  • Emotional overwhelm, and burnout
  • Grief and complicated loss
  • Men who are struggling with feelings of overwhelm and anger
  • ADHD, including late diagnosis of ADHD during perimenopause
  • Relationship and family difficulties
  • Feeling like they have lost themselves

Together, we will explore what’s been weighing you down and gently challenge old patterns that no longer serve you.

A welcoming space

I strive to offer all clients a  counselling space where you can feel safe, comfortable, respected, and genuinely heard. I work with adults of all ages and genders. I am a proud LGBTQIA+ ally and have experience working with both male and female trans clients.

I also bring to my client work an understanding of late diagnosed ADHD with Autistic tendencies, (including right to choose), perimenopause and Type 2 diabetes, due to lived experience.

If you feel like we could be a good fit, you’re very welcome to get in touch to book your first session, or arrange an introductory call to explore working together.

Additional information about counselling for men, online or in Stockport.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent thirty years working in builders and plumbers merchants, alongside men every day. From a northern, working class background where mental health wasn't talked about, I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help when you’re used to just getting on with things. My own experience of counselling was life changing, and it shaped how I work today.

Additional information about counselling for estranged adult children and adults in difficult relationships with their parents, online or in Stockport.

A large part of my work is supporting adult children who feel shaped and often stuck, by painful or absent parent-child relationships.

Many adult children carry a deep sense of guilt and shame, or the belief that they are a “bad child”. Others are grieving the parent they needed but never had, or navigating estrangement after a parent has died. These experiences can quietly erode self-worth and identity over time.

I bring both professional training and lived experience to this work. I’m the daughter of an alcoholic mother, who has now passed away. This means I understand the complexity and loneliness that can come with these relationships, without judgement or agenda.

I won’t tell you what you should do about your family relationships, that is your choice, and I will always respect that choice. My role is to support you in untangling your self-worth from how you were treated, helping you to release guilt that was never yours to carry, whilst finding your sense of self. With the aim of creating an identity that is separate from your relationship or your parents story.
