About me

Hello. My name is Lisa and I am an integrative, trauma-informed therapist. I offer a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental therapeutic space to help you work through current difficulties or process painful experiences from your past.

Therapy is a collaborative process and I am invested in helping you identify the root cause of present issues and symptoms and work with you to make lasting changes, which will improve your overall well-being, self-esteem and relationships.

Therapy can:
Help you understand and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and take back control of your life.

Help you set and maintain healthy boundaries with friends/family/colleagues and build assertiveness skills which will build confidence and self esteem:  improving your relationships with others.

Help you to process the loss of a loved one and navigate the natural but sometimes complicated process of grief.

Help you work through the symptoms and impact of childhood sexual abuse, using trauma-focused CBT.

Help you understand your attachment style and how it impacts you and your interpersonal relationships.

Help you understand and reduce the symptoms of PTSD/CPTSD, process traumatic experiences and the unhelpful beliefs these experiences have created using EMDR.

Availability
I have a variety of face to face appointments available in Lisburn and Banbridge. I also offer remote sessions via phone or Microsoft Teams.

I am recognised as a therapist by BUPA, Aviva & AXA Health and can accept clients who are insured through them. Please note that you will need a pre-authorisation number from your insurer before proceeding with sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have 7 years of post-qualifying experience in working with clients on a wide range of issues including: Trauma, PTSD & CPTSD, bereavement and loss; anger; stress; anxiety and depression; confidence; self-esteem; boundary-setting, and relationship and attachment issues.

I use EMDR and trauma-focused CBT to work with the impact of trauma caused by childhood sexual abuse; physical & emotional abuse encountered in childhood or adult relationships, or experiences encountered by emergency services personnel. I also work with clients who are suffering from PTSD as a result of a single traumatic incident, such as a car accident.

I have been in private practice since 2020 and have also worked in a range of settings as a school counsellor, bereavement counsellor and an EAP counsellor for a large Occupational Health company.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
