About me

I work with people who are struggling with all sorts of difficulties.  Some have lost someone dear to them or in the swirl of a complicated break up or transition in life.  Others have found themselves in the same tricky situations over and over again and don’t understand why.  Some have strong feelings or intrusive thoughts, or maybe difficulties connecting with feelings.  They may have an idea of what’s going on but can’t seem to find a way out of their struggles.

I understand that coming to counselling can be diffficult and my aim is to provide a safe and empathic space for you to feel comfortable telling your story.  I can help by listening carefully and understanding more about what it is that brings you into counselling.  Drawing on my experience, I can work with you to make sense of your struggles and I will support you as you take lighter steps, moving forwards with a stronger sense of who you are.  My core approach is psychodynamic however I may draw on other modalities depending on your needs at that time.

I work with people from all backgrounds from the age of 14 years old and up.  I have several years of experience working with both adults and young people in a variety of different places including: school (Gosford Hill), universities (Oxford and Brookes) and community counselling services (Riverside and The Abingdon Bridge).

Some of the areas I have worked with recently are:

  • Feeling stressed at work / school
  • Feeling down
  • Complicated grief
  • Feelings of shame
  • Difficulties opening up
  • Feeling worried about things / having panic attacs
  • Struggles with a partner / sex
  • Difficulties with family members
  • Past expereince of abuse or trauma

For 'in person' counselling, sessions are held in a ground floor room in Abingdon, near Oxford and Didcot.  There is free off-road parking available.  I also offer online counselling to those living in the UK.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
