About me
Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or low? Incessant self-doubts, self-criticisms and worries? You might identify with the terms
- perfectionist
- procrastinator
- people pleaser,
- all the above?
Maybe you're leaning on coping strategies like overworking, wine, doom-scrolling or other kinds of avoidance a bit too often. So many of us have relationship difficulties such as trust issues or taking rejection hard, or experiencing the tension (and headaches) of treading on eggshells with our partner or relatives, perhaps questioning "is it them or me?" And then there's that feeling of being haunted by what the hell happenened in past difficult relationships, long after they're over more distant. It can be confusing- wondering if its childhood or past relationship experiences that have affected you, but then "I should be over that by now" or yoy tell yourself "it wasn't that bad".
You're presumably here reading this now as you want some answers to why you're having these issues and even better some direction on how to find peace and contentment without feeling that the past is holding you back.
Hi, I'm Lindsey, a clinical psychologist, here to help. I'm experienced working with a wide range of difficulties, specialising in trauma. The struggles above are often linked to painful or lacking early experiences. And I care passionately about helping people with that. I aim to provide a safe space where we work together, with curiosity and warmth, to make sense of the stuckness and consider possible next steps. I am trained in and use a range of evidence based therapeutic approaches (e.g. EMDR, ACT, CFT) in a friendly, open, collaborative and - most importantly- an individualised way. No out of texbook therapy with me. I am down to earth and in case you're wondering, swearing is absolutely okay (preferable) with me!
I help people understand and handle distress and move from surviving to thriving. I prefer non-medical/pathologising terms for the human experience of emotional pain and suffering. The most important question being "what happened to you?", rather than "what's wrong with you?". I believe humans are incredible at adapting to adversity. Humans don't break, we just get stuck. And therapy aims to help you get unstuck bit by bit to develop the life you want.
If this resonates get in touch. I reply to all genuine requests.
Training, qualifications & experience
Seeking a therapist is daunting. You've possibly tried therapy before and the benefits might have been short lived or they just didn't seem to get you or your problems. Why not this time put your trust in a highly qualified, experienced professional? Since qualifying 24 years ago I have specialised in wellbeing and trauma so you can have confidence in my skills and dedication.
University of Teesside - Doctorate in Clinical Psychology 2002
EMDR full accredited training - completed 2019.
I have extensive trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and a range of trauma-focussed therapies. I value regular individual and group clinical supervision. I'm influenced by Pete Walker's work on trauma and am exploring inner child work in different modalities currently.

Further information
The benefits of my clinical psychology training and learning through my career are that I've developed a broad knowledge of, and specialised skills in several therapy approaches. This enables me to flexibly integrate these approaches and tailor an individualised therapy for each unique person I see. The therapeutic relationship is central to everything and I find ACT, CFT and EMDR can be helpful to many.
I offer individual therapy and clinical supervision, face to face and online. Face to face is in a comfortable therapy room in Huddersfield, with free parking, 10 minutes drive off J24 of the M62. Easily accessible from Huddersfield, 10 minute taxi or one short bus ride.
