About me

Hi there, I'm Laura, a psychodynamic counsellor offering individual counselling both in person and online.

My approach is guided by the principles of psychoanalysis, helping individuals explore the unconscious patterns that influence their daily lives. These patterns, often hidden, can profoundly impact emotional well-being and personal growth.

In our work together, you'll have a safe space to explore the past, particularly childhood experiences, and uncover unresolved conflicts or repressed memories that may lie at the heart of current struggles. By bringing these challenges to light, we can begin to understand how they contribute to challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or feelings of inner conflict.

It is important to understand that deep-seated patterns and emotional wounds take time to unravel. As Freud said, "We are what we are because we have been what we have been". This therapeutic process involves uncovering, understanding, and ultimately integrating the unconscious into your conscious life, leading to clarity and self-awareness whilst creating space for authentic connection.

Sessions typically follow a weekly structure, scheduled at the same time each week for 50 minutes. This consistency allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and ensures that you have a dedicated, uninterrupted space to explore, uncover and work through relational patterns.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Master's degree in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Essex.

I currently work in several locations across Essex and Hampshire including private practice at The Henry Centre, Essex.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

If this approach resonates with you, or if you have any questions, please contact me. I am currently accepting new clients for online work and have a short waitlist for in-person. I offer flexible appointment times to accommodate your schedule, with both daytime and evening availability.

In our first session, we will approach things a bit differently. We will spend some time discussing and setting up the framework for our work together, which is called 'contracting'. Contracting in counselling means that we will establish some guidelines and agreements to ensure that both of us are clear on how we will work together, what to expect, and how best I can support you.
