About me

Finding the right counsellor can feel difficult, especially when you are already overwhelmed, unsure where to begin, or wondering whether counselling will actually feel any different.

I work with children, young people and adults, offering counselling that is shaped around the individual rather than expecting you to fit into a particular approach to therapy. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about, have the right words, or be able to explain everything neatly.

People come to me for many different reasons. You may be living with the impact of trauma, experiencing anxiety or emotional overwhelm, navigating addiction or recovery, grieving a loss, struggling with relationships or life changes, or simply feeling stuck and unsure of what comes next.

My practice is neuroaffirming. This does not mean I work exclusively with neurodivergent clients. It means I recognise and respect different ways of thinking, communicating, processing emotions and experiencing the world. Counselling should adapt to the person, rather than expecting the person to adapt to counselling.

Sessions can therefore be shaped around what works for you, including the pace, communication style, level of structure and different ways of exploring what you are experiencing.

My approach is integrative and pluralistic, allowing us to draw on different therapeutic approaches rather than relying on a single fixed model. At the heart of this is the relationship we build and our collaborative work to find what is meaningful and useful for you.

I offer counselling for children, young people and adults, with sessions available in person in Port Glasgow, online, and through home visits within Inverclyde and the local area where appropriate.

If you are considering counselling, you are welcome to get in touch. You do not need to have everything figured out before you do.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and registered individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), with over 21 years of experience working with and supporting individuals and families across a range of therapeutic and supportive roles.

My training and professional development include:

• PDA in Counselling Children and Young People (SCQF Level 11)
• HND Diploma in Counselling
• HNC Counselling
• COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate
• PDA in Addiction
• SVQ Level 3 Social Services (Children and Young People)

My experience includes therapeutic work with children, young people, adults and families, alongside extensive experience within Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Addiction and recovery, criminal justice, bereavement, suicide prevention and complicated grief.

Throughout my career, I have worked alongside people with very different experiences, circumstances and ways of experiencing and understanding the world. This breadth of experience has helped shape my integrative and pluralistic approach and my commitment to neuro-affirming, individualised counselling.

I undertake ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional and ethical practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Alongside my counselling practice, I design and facilitate workshops, courses, group work and psychoeducational sessions for organisations and services.

I can deliver these in educational settings, third-sector and community organisations, corporate workplaces, and other professional or community environments.

Rather than offering only pre-designed programmes, I can develop or adapt content around the needs of the organisation and the people taking part. This can include one-off workshops, short courses, group programmes or more focused psychoeducational sessions.

I welcome enquiries from organisations, services and professionals who would like to discuss a particular need, theme or piece of work and explore what could be developed for their setting.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I work from premises in Port Glasgow for face-to-face sessions. These premises are fully accessible.
