About me
Velvet Couch Therapy - Private Counselling Practice based in Canterbury.
What if you didn't have to keep holding everything together?
Perhaps you've become very good at carrying things responsibilities, expectations, relationships, emotions, other people's needs. Maybe you've reached a point where you're thinking "this feels like a lot for one person to carry".
Or perhaps your experience is completely different. You may be dealing with anxiety, loss, relationship difficulties, questions about identity, a major life change, or something you can't quite put into words yet.
Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to face it alone. Counselling can give you the space to pause, breathe and begin to understand what is happening beneath the surface without judgement and without needing to be anyone other than yourself.
What we might explore together
You might be experiencing;
- Anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed
- Low self-esteem or confidence
- Relationship difficulties
- Family or parenting challenges
- Separation, divorce or significant life changes
- Grief and loss
- Feeling lost or disconnected from yourself
- People-pleasing or difficulty setting boundaries
- Difficult emotions or patterns that seem hard to break
- Identity and questions about who you are
- Major transitions or turning points
- Feeling stuck and unsure what to do next
- Or simply a sense that you want things to feel different
Sometimes we know exactly what we want to talk about. Sometimes we don't. Both are completely okay.
My approach
I believe that you and your experience of living in this world is so unique to you. As Carl Jung said - "we don't see the world as it is. We see it through the lens of who we are".
Counselling isn't about me giving you a list of answers. It's about creating enough safety and trust for you to explore your own thoughts, feelings, experiences and patterns, perhaps in ways you haven't been able to before.
I am an integrative counsellor, and my approach will vary depending on the individual needs of a client. One style of therapy does not work for everyone.
My therapeutic approach includes humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
How we work together is flexible and may change as your needs shift over time.
I work collaboratively, at your pace, and with genuine curiosity about your individual experience.
I bring warmth, honesty, empathy and compassion to my work, while also being willing to gently challenge you when that might help you see something differently.
There is no judgement here. You can bring the parts of yourself that feel messy, complicated, uncomfortable or difficult to put into words.
Please get in touch by email to arrange an informal 20 minute telephone appointment to see if I am the right counsellor for you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
