About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Kat and I'm a Person-Centred, BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist, working from my private practice in Fleetwood. I offer face to face, online and telephone sessions, along with flexible evening appointments via Teams or telephone.

I have particular experience in exploring the impact of childhood trauma and life transitions and I'm also an experienced counsellor for adults who have been impacted by sexual assault and childhood abuse.

Whether you're struggling to process events which have happened to you; are finding it tricky to navigate transitional moments; or are feeling stressed and overwhelmed; I'm here to support you with whatever you decide to bring to therapy. By offering a safe, confidential and welcoming space, we can work through these challenges together, at a pace you're comfortable with.

I value the importance of our relationship, with my work grounded in the belief that healing starts with connection, compassion and understanding. I therefore invite you to reach out for a free informal chat in the first instance to see if you think I am the right fit for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Master's level qualification in Counselling & Psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria and a 1st class Honours Degree in Children's Health & Social Care from Lancaster University. I'm also an accredited Drawing and Talking Practitioner with additional training in Sand play - as well as being Enhanced DBS cleared and an experienced DSL.

I have extensive experience within the education sector, as well as working with charitable organisations and private sector companies. All of which brings a wealth of knowledge, empathy and professional integrity to my therapeutic practice.

My experience includes:

  • Over 12 years in education working with children, young people and adults in a safeguarding and wellbeing capacity. In addition to meeting the therapeutic needs of the children and young people, I now also provide counselling to education professionals and parents.
  • 2 years experience counselling adults who have been impacted by rape, sexual violence and/or childhood abuse.
  • 3 years working within the community alongside children's social care and edge of care services.

These roles have broadened by knowledge and deepened my trauma-informed practice - reinforcing the importance of providing compassionate, non-judgemental support to those who are navigating complex and emotional histories.

Whilst my practice is grounded in person-centred theory, my qualifications and experience have allowed me to develop a flexible and more integrative style which is tailored to meet the unique needs of my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
