About me
Hello, I'm Julie, a qualified psychodynamic counsellor.
I'm a friendly, warm and compassionate person who will listen and support you in a safe, respectful and confidential manner during our counselling partnership.
How I work and my availability
I offer 60 minute counselling sessions via telephone or online via a secure and easy to use - WhatsApp for business.
I have sessions available - Tue, Wed and Thurs - Evening. We will meet at the agreed day/time each week but the frequency can be discussed and reviewed.
I understand that opening up to a counsellor can be daunting and a huge step. I will provide a free 20-minute, no-obligation chat to see if I am the right counsellor for you. Click on the 'Book an intro call' button to find a time to suit you. Or email me with any questions. I will endeavour to respond within 2 working days.
How we will work together
I appreciate that life can throw us curve balls (e.g. loss, bereavement, unemployment, family issues, relationship breakdown, stress, bullying or a traumatic event) which can tip the balance of our mental health and can leave us battling with self-esteem, anxiety, depression or feeling lost, stressed, stuck, overwhelmed hopeless and detached from those around you. No problem is too small if it’s affecting you, so please do reach out.
During counselling sessions, we will explore your relationships, family dynamics, and belief systems to help develop insight into your past and how it is showing up in present day issues.
Our upbringing and the people we meet in our life have a way of shaping who we 'think' we are. It may be a negative label that a family member gave you - ‘overly sensitive, not good at....., the sensible one’ or you may have suffered neglect or abuse. These labels and events can cause you to unconsciously apply defences to protect yourself, like denial or repressing feelings.
You will set the pace and depth when sharing your thoughts, feelings and emotions. I won’t offer advice but will listen and act as a non-judgemental guide as you consider options and gain clarity, acceptance or a pathway for change. I feel humbled and privileged to be able to support you when you are revisiting and dealing with difficult experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience
4 years of intensive psychodynamic counselling training.
- SEG Award Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Online and Telephone training certification
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
- Ongoing continual professional development.
18 months of volunteering with MIND UK has given me an excellent basis to practise as a psychodynamic counsellor.
Menopause research has given me detailed knowledge of the many debilitating symptoms that women experience and how it impacts every aspect of their life and relationships. I have an affinity to also support those going through perimenopause and menopause.
30 years of working in a corporate role as an IT professional and a manager has provided me with the experience to listen, support and understand how stress, conflict and bullying can impact an individual’s mental health. I have experience of stress management and have training in equality, diversity, and inclusion.
20 years of parenting twins has taught me compassion and an understanding of the challenges that children, teens and adolescents face with their mental health: anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, self-esteem, neurodiversity and the impact of lockdown on teens.
I feel my experience enables me to understand parents who are balancing work and life alongside caring responsibilities for their children and, or ageing parents whilst trying to take care of themselves.
