About me

Recognising that you need support is the first step and looking for a counsellor can feel daunting. I endeavour to make the process from first contact to our final appointment comfortable, relaxed and safe.

I am an integrative counsellor with over 10 years of post qualification experience. I work with individuals, couples and students, including student counsellors. I work both face to face and via video calls.

Do you find it hard to speak out in a group?
Are you going out of your way to please others or ‘keep the peace?”
Do you find it difficult to believe in your value and worth?
Are you struggling in your relationships?
Are you finding anxiety is stopping you do the things you want, or that your emotions seem ‘full on’ causing you to feel overwhelmed, or feel nothing at all?

Emotions

We sometimes find it difficult to regulate our emotions either feeling intense emotions or very muted emotions. It can feel like there is something wrong with us. There really isn’t!
Our emotions are the responses we have to any given situation. They are unique to us and come from our experience of life, plus our expectation of what is to come. As we discover what our responses are telling us, we learn that we are being notified of changes we need to make. As well as needs that require fulfilment. We can learn to recognise these signs through various exercises including mindfulness, guided meditations and journaling.

Relationships

The way we speak to ourselves and others has a huge impact on how we receive words and actions. It also affects the way we feel about ourselves. This can cause friction and distress in our relationships with family, friends and partners. It can lead us to put everyone else’s needs above our own. We become people pleasers but exhaust ourselves in the process.

You deserve relationships where you feel seen, valued and respected. Therapy can help you grow your confidence, reconnect with your needs and develop healthy boundaries. It helps create the kind of connections you’ve been longing for. You matter!

You are always in control of your sessions, I’m here to walk this journey with you.   I provide a safe, comfortable and non judgemental space where you can be heard and your story/narrative can be shared and explored. We will collaboratively work together to explore your feelings and purpose. Your thought processes, coping mechanisms, and your responses. Challenging them when needed. We will set goals that help you to keep looking forward and mark achievements and progress. Enabling the development of healthy boundaries that will foster confidence, self value and self worth.

People who have worked with me have given feedback that they have better relationships. Feel happier, and more relaxed. They become more confident and feel empowered to make their own choices. They are able to take responsibility for their own emotions. Experiencing reduced blame in relationships which decreases arguments. They find they are able to distinguish what and who they are responsible for and who and what they are not responsible for.

On initial contact I will take your name and a basic overview of why you are choosing counselling now, this will be just enough information to see if I can assist you in your requirements. At the first appointment I will take contact details and some background details. We will then look at goals you would like to set for counselling, if you already know what these might be. These are initial goals. It maybe you don’t have any set goals at this point in time. That’s absolutely fine, we can explore this as part of the process. If you have come with something that requires immediate interventions we will also look at this during the first appointment. Eg. Trouble sleeping, struggling to focus, overwhelming emotions.

All data collected is paper based so can’t be hacked or transmitted. It is stored in a locked cabinet in my counselling room which is locked when I’m not in it. Access is restricted to me and the owner of the property.

I always respond to communications within 48 hours - if I have not please text me it means I haven't received your enquiry

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
