About me
Hi, I'm Joel, an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, trained to MA level and skilled in several core therapeutic approaches. I work collaboratively with clients who are facing a wide range of difficulties and challenges, helping them to find a fresh perspective and opportunities to make positive changes.
I aim to offer a welcoming, non-judgemental, supportive, and safe space, so that you can talk through concerns in as much depth as you feel comfortable with. We’ll go at your pace, giving time and focus to what’s most important to you, and we’ll look out for opportunities to make positive changes.
My goals are to work flexibly and collaboratively with you, and to stay alongside you in whatever you want to address. People often come to therapy for more than one reason, and discover unexpected ways to make use of it once they’ve started.
Sessions can be online or in-person, depending on what works best for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
My primary training was the MA Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Roehampton. I engage in regular Continuing Professional Development.
My way of working is integrative, so I’m trained and skilled in a number of different therapeutic approaches. The approaches I most often draw from include person-centred counselling, attachment theory, and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I offer a free 15-minute phone conversation so we can meet one another, and help you decide whether you want to book in some sessions.
I offer competitive rates, with fees set by a sliding scale related to income. This is because I believe therapy should be accessible to everyone, so a sliding scale helps sessions be affordable and sustainable.
